As a dedicated movie enthusiast who has had the privilege of witnessing the evolution of Tamil cinema over the years, I must say that Chiyaan Vikram‘s latest release, Thangalaan, has truly left an indelible mark on my heart. The way it resonates with audiences across India, transcending language barriers, is a testament to its universal appeal.
In a recent interview with TopMob, actor Chiyaan Vikram, actress Parvathy Thiruvothu, and director Pa Ranjith opened up about their latest release, “Thangalaan.” This film, which has been a hit at the pan-Indian box office, was simultaneously released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages across India. The movie has been met with widespread appreciation and applause.
During a discussion at TopMob Masterclass, filmmaker Pa Ranjith fielded a commonly asked question from fans who were captivated by Thangalaan: Will there be a sequel? Intriguingly, when posed this question, the director shared his thoughts on the possibility of a follow-up movie.
He expressed that Thangalaan is deeply rooted, and we need to approach our next steps as if we’re extending roots even further. After seeing Thangalaan, many viewers have inquired about its universe, and his mind has been buzzing with intriguing thoughts. He confessed he yearns to explore the world again.
Additionally, Pa Ranjith echoed the audience’s eagerness to understand Thangalaan’s fate beyond the movie ending. He expressed, “I am also curious about what happened to Thangalaan after he received the gold and how his life was impacted by the colonial system, whether it brought them happiness or not, and how significantly their lives changed or remained unchanged. Therefore, I would like to explore that topic again.”
In that same interview, Chiyaan Vikram was additionally asked for his thoughts about the extraordinary success of Thangalaan at the national box office, as the movie has performed exceptionally well in almost every language it has been screened.
Expressing his feelings, the actor commented, “The response has been incredible across all languages, and it’s particularly astonishing that by the second week, more theaters were added for both Tamil and Telugu versions. The praise has been overwhelming. It’s wonderful to hear everyone saying ‘wow, what a film,’ and expressing their admiration in such a way…”
