Ex-GTA lead’s MindsEye is such a technical disaster that PlayStation is giving out refunds

2021 has been an exceptional year for video gaming, with Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and Blue Prince being standout titles. Additionally, we’re eagerly anticipating the release of Death Stranding 2. However, despite the high expectations, MindsEye, developed by former GTA lead Leslie Benzies, has been a disappointment. In fact, PlayStation is offering refunds due to the game’s technical issues.

PlayStation gives refunds for MindsEye

Sony tends to be quite rigid when it comes to offering refunds on games purchased from the PSN store. Unlike Steam, where you can often return a game if you haven’t played it for more than two hours, Sony usually only allows refunds for pre-ordered items that have not been downloaded or preloaded.

One remarkable instance where Sony granted refunds occurred with Cyberpunk 2077, a game that had a troubled, bug-ridden debut in 2020. It appears history may be on repeat with MindsEye facing similar issues.

On the r/MindsEye subreddit, user MasterofMoogles1995 posted an image of communication from PlayStation Support granting a refund. The user requested a refund because the game wasn’t running at 60FPS on the PS5 Pro as claimed in the official PlayStation launch trailer. PlayStation Support acknowledged the issue and stated that the situation was being investigated, while also agreeing to process the refund request in the meantime.

Beyond what’s already mentioned, another instance of a refund story is mine, shared by WolfgangMishima on X (as reported by Insider Gaming). In his screenshot, a PlayStation Support message reads, “Typically, we can’t issue refunds for games downloaded due to the PlayStation Store’s cancellation policy. However, recognizing your struggles with the game after your troubleshooting efforts and your wish to seek a refund, I’ll make an exception and process your return as a goodwill gesture on your account.

Through the MindsEye X’s official account, updates or fixes have been posted, yet it remains uncertain to what extent these enhance the experience. Many PlayStation 5 gamers are reporting unusual errors and malfunctions, in addition to issues with the game repeatedly shutting down unexpectedly.

Regrettably, unlike Cyberpunk 2077 which faced performance issues despite its excellent gameplay at launch, MindsEye seems not to match the same level of quality. This is disappointing because there was high expectation from Grand Theft Auto fans due to it being developed by Build A Rocket Boy, a studio established by Leslie Benzies, a longtime GTA producer.

Many had high expectations that MindsEye would serve as a fun distraction until the arrival of GTA 6 in May of next year. However, it seems this isn’t happening. The silver lining is that there are numerous other engaging games scheduled for release before GTA 6 arrives.

Elsewhere in the gaming world, Stellar Blade shattered a PlayStation milestone within mere hours after its debut on PC.
