‘Everything changed that day; I completely broke down’: Sivakarthikeyan recalls father’s demise which shattered his 17 year old self

As a dedicated follower, I find myself deeply moved by Sivakarthikeyan‘s heartfelt portrayal of Major Mukund Varadarajan in Amaran. His performance is undeniably powerful, but what truly resonates with me is his personal connection to the character and the inspiration he draws from his late father, G Doss.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d say: “I’ve been truly humbled by the nationwide acclaim I received for my portrayal of Major Mukund Varadarajan in Amaran, a biographical war drama. Yet, it’s my late father, G Doss, who deserves all the credit for inspiring me to tackle such an ambitious role and project. At our film’s success event, I found myself reflecting on poignant moments that still shake me after his passing.

For those not familiar, Sivakarthikeyan’s dad, G Doss, was a police officer and jail superintendent who tragically passed away when Sivakarthikeyan was just a teenager. During a recent event, the actor shared heartfelt memories of his father, expressing that he held him in high regard as if he were a hero.

Reflecting on the past 21 years without his father, Sivakarthikeyan expressed, “My father was an honorable officer admired by many. He serves as my main inspiration for this film. For the last two decades, I’ve been living with his memories, and through Amaran, he provided me the chance to embody him and experience him more intimately. He is my first hero. I recall polishing his shoes, placing his badge on his uniform, helping with the belt, everything. In Amaran, I aspired to be like him.” He added, “I observed many parallels between my father (Appa) and Major Mukund.

Reflecting on a pivotal moment that forever altered my world, I shared the fateful day I said goodbye to my father. That instant, watching him in an ambulance and a cold storage unit, left me feeling as if the ground beneath me had crumbled. My idol, my hero, was no longer by my side, and everything shifted dramatically for me at the tender age of 17.

In the morning at eight, a call came in from my dad informing me he’d be home for two days. Arriving back home, I found out he wasn’t coming anymore. That day, everything shifted. I used to wear confidence like a badge because my father was always there. But when I saw him, lifeless and cold in the ambulance, I crumbled. After the ceremonies, all that remained of my dad were his bones. It left seventeen-year-old me utterly devastated.

Indeed, diving headfirst into his most recent production, “Amaran,” I can’t help but be utterly captivated! The actor has truly outdone himself in portraying a real-life war hero, the martyred Major, with an authenticity that is nothing short of breathtaking. And let me tell you, Sai Pallavi shines as his leading lady, adding a luminous brilliance to every scene they share together.

Under the guidance of director Rajkumar Periasamy, the movie has almost reached the RS. 80 crore milestone in just a week since it debuted.
