As a long-time admirer of Malayalam cinema, I have been privileged to witness the exceptional talent that Mohanlal possesses. His acting prowess has earned him the admiration of some of the most revered figures in Indian film industry, including legends like Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam, and Ram Gopal Varma.

Mohanlal is eagerly preparing for the premiere of his first-ever directorial movie called “Barroz.” The movie will hit theaters on December 25, 2024, which also happens to be Christmas Day. Recently, he sat down with Suhasini Maniratnam for an interview on Galatta to discuss the upcoming film.

In my discussion with the veteran actress, she shared some intriguing insights about the film industry. She mentioned that several renowned directors such as Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam, and Ram Gopal Varma hold me in high regard, considering me their preferred actor. She even shared that Kamal himself considers me his favorite! What an honor it is to be recognized by these legends of cinema.

Reminiscing about an old chat, Suhasini went on to say, “I mentioned to him (Kamal) that I was thrilled to be acting alongside Mammootty. He then inquired why I hadn’t worked with Mohanlal before. He suggested I watch Mohanlal perform, and he advised me to do so when I was 20, and he was just 27. It seems everyone admires you.

Upon Suhasini’s remarks, Mohanlal humbly received the flattering words with grace and laughed at them effortlessly.

Previously, the superstar has collaborated with the aforementioned personalities on multiple projects. Notably, Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal acted together in the film Unnaipol Oruvan, which was helmed by Chakri Toleti. This 2009 production was actually a remake of the Hindi movie A Wednesday!.

In a different project, Mani Ratnam and Mohanlal collaborated when he directed the film Iruvar. This movie featured Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Prakash Raj as co-stars alongside him. Moreover, the renowned actor also joined forces with Ram Gopal Varma in the films titled Company and Aag.

In the days to come, Mohanlal is gearing up for a cinematic appearance this year with his film titled Barroz. This project serves as his directorial debut and follows a children’s fable inspired by the book carrying the same name. The story revolves around a spirit protector tasked with securing the D’Gama family’s treasure until one of their descendants seeks it out.

For four centuries, a man carries it with him as a crucial element of the narrative. As various elements are poised to shift over time, this artifact becomes the focal point of the tale.
