In the buzz surrounding Marvel Cinematic Universe’s X-Men, Euphoria star Hunter Schafer has stepped forward to clarify the persistent whispers suggesting her for the role of Mystique. As Marvel Studios concludes its Multiversal Saga and prepares to usher in the Age of Mutants within their universe (after 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars), online theorists and industry insiders have been attaching a variety of high-profile Hollywood names to the unnamed X-Men project. Schafer is the latest name to emerge from the rumor mill in this context.
Hunter Schafer says playing X-Men’s Mystique ‘would be cool’ in MCU
During a recent conversation, the actress who played Cuckoo casually confirmed the fan speculation about her role as a shapeshifting mutant, even showing enthusiasm for the possibility.
At the SAG Awards red carpet event, an Entertainment Tonight correspondent asked me about the possibility of me playing Mystique in the upcoming X-Men film. I confessed to being aware of those rumors, saying, “I did catch a glimpse [of the fan casts]! Yes, my dad actually texted me about it. Yeah, that would be exciting.” When asked about my thoughts on the role, I added, “These fan castings pop up occasionally and they’re always heartwarming, especially for characters I genuinely appreciate.
Recently, there have been more rumors about casting for the X-Men, besides Schafer being suggested as Mystique. These include Sadie Sink and Harris Dickinson, who might play Jean Grey and Scott Summers in the MCU. Additionally, Freaky Friday’s Julia Butters is reportedly vying for the role of Kitty Pryde.
Fans saw the multitalented character portrayed by Raven (also known as Mystique) on the big screen in 2019’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix. However, Jennifer Lawrence was the last actress to play this role in live-action format. It is possible that Hunter Schafer could take over the part in the future, given her recent statements about it.
Although the recent news about the X-Men film is positive, Marvel Studios hasn’t yet made an official statement on the matter as of now.
