Ethan Hawke to Write & Produce The Gunfighter Remake for 20th Century

20th Century Studios is at present working on a modern adaptation of “The Gunfighter“, following the footsteps of the iconic 1950 Western film. Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and producer Ethan Hawke has agreed to script and oversee the new take, initially brought to life by the esteemed actor Gregory Peck.

Currently, it’s undecided whether or not Hawke will join to direct the ongoing project that is now in its initial stages. Moreover, Shelby Gaines is collaborating with Hawke on writing the screenplay for this upcoming venture. This new creative endeavor marks a continuation of his artistic pursuits following his role as writer and director for his daughter Maya Hawke in the 2023 film Wildcat.

What is The Gunfighter about?

In the initial movie, Jimmy Ringo is a seasoned gunfighter recognized for his speed in drawing weapons, yet his skill often leads to conflicts as others persistently seek to confront him. However, Ringo yearns for a reunion with his distant family and must deal with numerous adversaries, among them the rising star marksman Hunt Bromley. As Ringo strives to mend fences with his wife, Peggy, he discovers that his violent past is challenging to escape.

The Western movie “The Gunfighter” was orchestrated by Henry King and penned by writers William Bowers and Williams Sellers. Alongside Peck, the cast featured Helen Westcott as Peggy Walsh, Millard Mitchell as Mark, Jean Parker as Molly, Karl Malden as Mac, Skip Homeier as Hunt Bromley, Anthony Ross as Charlie, among others.
