Actors Ethan Hawke (from “The Northman”) and Russell Crowe (known for “Gladiator”), have officially taken on the main roles for an upcoming historical period movie titled “The Weight“. This film is produced by Padraic McKinley, who has previously collaborated with Hawke in the 2020 miniseries “The Good Lord Bird”, and with Crowe in the 2019 series “The Loudest Voice”.
Apart from his role in The Weight, Ethan Hawke is set to appear in various upcoming films. These include Scott Derrickson’s horror sequel The Black Phone 2, Richard Linklater’s music-focused drama Blue Moon, a mountain climbing film titled Batso alongside Daniel Radcliffe, and Andrew Stanton’s Beatles project Revolver featuring Maya Hawke. On the other hand, Russell Crowe was recently in Kraven the Hunter with Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Up next for him are the sports drama Beast in Me, the crime thriller American Son, and the historical suspense film Nuremberg.
What is The Weight about?
The movie’s plot revolves around Samuel Murphy, a man struggling after losing his wife. He finds himself in a ruthless labor camp controlled by Clancy, an unprincipled supervisor. Determined to break free and win back custody of his daughter, Penny, Murphy gets drawn into Clancy’s dangerous gold trafficking operation. This puts him at risk not only from the treacherous wilderness but also potentially from betrayal within his own circle.
This upcoming film, titled “The Weight,” will be helmed by director McKinley, who’s working from a script penned collaboratively by Shelby Gaines, Matthew Chapman, and Matthew Booi. The screenplay is based on an original story conceived by Booi and Leo Scherman. Production for this project is slated to commence this summer. Simon Fields and Nathan Fields of Fields Entertainment, Ryan Hawke for Under The Influence, Jonas Katzenstein and Maximilian Leo from augenschein, Veronica Ferres for Construction Film, and Ralf Berchtold as an executive producer are all involved in the production process.
