Ester Dean recently apologized to Beyoncé for the song they co-wrote with Keri Hilson, “Turnin Me On,” which some believed contained lyrics that were critical of Beyoncé. This remix by Keri Hilson was released in 2009.
Hey there fellow gamers! I just dove deep into the latest update from my favorite game’s creator, Dean, on their social media feed regarding that hotly-anticipated new song of theirs.
Ester Dean apologizes for Beyoncé’s diss track
More recently, Ester Dean acknowledged an apology through her Instagram post concerning a verse she collaborated on with singer Keri Hilson in the “Turnin Me On” remix. This song, released in 2009 and gaining immediate notoriety, was perceived as having lyrics that seemed to be aimed at Beyoncé.
Dean expressed that the verse he submitted was immature and stated, “I put forth numerous verses for the remix; one was chosen, collaborated with Keri. In retrospect, I recognize it as juvenile and it doesn’t hold up well. I understand how it caused harm, particularly to women, and I accept full responsibility for my actions. I sincerely apologize for my role in this.” She also emphasized that her growth is genuine, and the apology she offers is authentic too.

Previously, similar sentiments were shared by Keri Hilson during her conversation on The Breakfast Club. She explained, “It’s a regret, but not in the way people might think because the song ‘Knock You Down’ wasn’t actually written by me. Those words aren’t mine. When I go to the studio, he plays me this verse. Immediately, I felt, ‘I can’t say that.’ That was my stance.
According to Hilson, she felt the song was “suspect” and made efforts to persuade producers Polow da Don and Timbaland not to include the verse, but her attempts were unsuccessful. Regarding Don, she revealed that he brought in another writer to pen that specific verse instead. Hilson further explained, “I argued with him over it, and I even started writing my own verses, but he was quite insistent. It was a power play between an executive and artist.
