Eric Dane Announces ALS Diagnosis, Gives Euphoria Season 3 Update

Actor Eric Dane, known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, recently disclosed that he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). In simpler terms, he has been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

What did Eric Dane say about his ALS diagnosis?

Eric Dane shared that he’s been diagnosed with ALS. He expressed his gratitude for having his beloved family with him as they embark on this new journey together. He also mentioned feeling fortunate to be able to keep working, and he’s excited about going back to work on Euphoria next week. He kindly requests privacy for himself and his family during this challenging period.

Lou Gehrig’s disease, or ALS, gradually causes muscles to weaken and eventually lose function over time. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for this degenerative condition, and it progressively worsens. Initial signs may include difficulties with limb movement and slurred speech, which can lead to a complete inability to walk and breathe without the aid of a device as the disease advances. This happens because ALS affects nerve cells in both the brain and spinal cord.

According to the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s website, following an ALS diagnosis, most patients pass away within three to five years. However, approximately 30% of ALS patients live beyond five years, and around 10-20% survive for ten years or longer. While survival past twenty years is uncommon, it can happen. Factors linked to better prognoses include being younger, male gender, and experiencing symptoms in the limbs rather than the bulbar region.

ComingSoon sends best wishes to Dane and his family at this time.
