Epic Games Store app comes to iOS in EU & Android devices worldwide

As a seasoned gamer with a decade-long history of navigating the dynamic landscape of digital gaming, I must admit that the latest development from Epic Games has piqued my interest. The release of their much-anticipated mobile app and the mobile version of Fall Guys is a significant step forward in expanding gaming accessibility. However, as an EU citizen, I find myself at an advantage, as I can now enjoy these offerings on my iOS device.

Epic Games has now debuted its long-awaited mobile application, which includes a mobile edition of Fall Guys suitable for both iOS and Android devices. The apps are currently accessible globally starting this weekend, albeit under certain conditions. While the global rollout of the Android version of the Epic Games Store app is complete, the iOS version is limited to regions within the European Union at present, presumably due to Epic Games’ ongoing legal dispute with Apple.

As a long-time gamer who grew up playing Fortnite, I was thrilled to hear about Epic Games’ recent announcement this week. They unveiled their mobile app, along with the mobile version of Fall Guys, through various social media platforms. The anticipation for the Epic Games Store app has been building for quite some time, as it serves as a pathway for Epic to re-release Fortnite on Apple devices within the EU.

Since at least 2021, Epic Games has been embroiled in a significant legal dispute with Apple. This conflict stemmed from Epic Games Store intentionally violating Apple’s rules, leading to judgments favoring Apple initially. However, Epic Games managed to secure minor triumphs in their ongoing court case against Apple. One of these victories was securing the agreement of judges that Apple’s limitations on external links and payment methods amounted to monopolistic practices. Furthermore, successes have been achieved internationally. For instance, under the Digital Markets Act, the EU has compelled Apple to make certain concessions regarding the Epic Games Store app and even allowed games like Fortnite back onto iOS via this platform.

Today sees the debut of the Epic Games Store app, accompanied by Fall Guys, a significant milestone in the company’s foundation, despite the need for more work to expand the app beyond EU territories on iOS platforms. Keep an eye on the ongoing Apple vs Epic Games saga for future developments.
