As a dedicated fan of Emily McIntire, I simply cannot contain my excitement when it comes to this extraordinary author! From her gripping stories to her inspiring personal journey, she has truly captured my heart and left an indelible mark on my reading experiences.
Emily McIntire captivated me right away as a gifted writer; it was no surprise that my initial foray into her work was through the novel titled “Hooked.” I couldn’t help but chuckle at the play on words in that title, given my immediate fascination with her writing.
In the course of our conversation, it’s worth mentioning that although “Hooked” is one of her most renowned works, McIntire has penned other books as well. She is particularly recognized for her experiences as a breast cancer survivor and her engaging videos shared on social platforms.
Regardless if you’ve read Emily McIntire’s books before or not, you’ve likely heard of her. That’s why I was so excited to be able to talk to her amidst the release of Hexed. Her Never After series is honestly one of my favorites of all-time and I truly couldn’t wait to hear her thoughts on some of these questions.
Indeed, I’d like to express my gratitude to both Leo PR and Emily McIntire for promptly returning my requests and overall, for being fantastic!
Emily McIntire talks Hexed and so much more in our interview.
One of the initial questions I posed to McIntire concerning the significance of Hexed for her, both as a concluding chapter in her Never After series and as a standalone project, prompted her to refer back to her recent social media post, which I’ve reprinted below. Previously, she revealed: “It’s a mixture of emotions to be wrapping up the series, and there’s a touch of apprehension because there’s always the concern about whether people will read what you produce in the future. Regarding this specific project, Hexed holds immense personal value for me.” Frankly, this heightens my anticipation for her upcoming work.
Because I love the series so much, I inquired if she might write more stories set within the world of Never After, and McIntire responded: “Currently, other characters are clamoring to share their tales. However, ‘never say never’ does ring a bell. For now, it seems we bid farewell to the Never After series.” Of course, rereading is an option, which makes this whole experience even more delightful.
When discussing her favorite couples from the series, she shared that her current favorite is “Hexed”. Being deeply involved in the story’s world, it’s a bit difficult for her to part ways, thus fostering a strong emotional bond with them as she hasn’t yet distanced herself to create the next one. She also believes that Venesa and Enzo are her most romantic couples to date, and I wholeheartedly concur; not only are they intensely romantic but they’re also quite steamy. If you’ve read the book, you’ll understand exactly what I mean.
What stood out most in my conversation with Emily McIntire is that she doesn’t plan her books ahead of time. Instead, she explained: “…characters often pop into my mind just when I need them. When Venesa appeared, I knew The Little Mermaid was a much-anticipated tale, so I wrote it knowing people would be pleased.” This method resonates with me, as it might just be my favorite in the Never After series.
During my author interviews, I frequently pose two questions with a common starting point: what tropes authors plan to explore next. However, Emily McIntire’s response intrigued me because she stated, “I don’t intentionally structure my writing around tropes; instead, they spontaneously emerge within the narrative. As a result, I am open to incorporating any of them, provided they seamlessly align with the progression of the plot and character development.
After posing my last question about any hints regarding her upcoming project or what we might anticipate, she didn’t fail to deliver a tantalizing response: “Why should I keep secrets? *She subtly gestures towards Hexed with a dramatic gaze*
I may have already given hints about my next project. However, I can’t reveal much, but I am thrilled that my initial series—The Sugarlake books—will be available in stores from January 2025 onwards. Unlike my dark romances, these stories are angsty, raw contemporary tales. They are interconnected standalones that follow a group of friends and each one has been revised, redesigned with fresh covers, includes bonus content, and new extended scenes. Even readers who have already read it will find something new to enjoy. It was such a pleasure to return to the world that launched my career as an author and spend time with these characters again. I can’t wait for more people to become enamored with them.” Hearing her express such enthusiasm about her work only makes me look forward to reading it even more.
Regardless if you recently discovered Emily McIntire’s book ‘Hexed’ or have long admired her literary works, I hope you’ll gain fresh insights into her authorial style and persona just as I did.
