In the last chapter of Emily in Paris season 4 part 1, it seemed like I had everything sorted out, just as I’d always wished for. I was blissfully (or so I thought) in a relationship with Gabriel, my ideal man, and my professional life was booming. But then, on a ski vacation with my beau, his ex-fiancée, and her entire family, reality started to feel like a distant dream…
Emily found herself at one spot at the start of season 4, but by its end, she was in an entirely new position – metaphorically and physically. So, what unfolds between Emily and Gabriel in part 2? How does their story continue with Marcello? And where might Emily’s journey take her if there’s a season 5? Will Paris be a temporary or permanent departure for her then? Let us delve into the surprising twists of the season 4 finale!
Here’s your last warning before the spoilers begin…
Emily is moving to Rome!
Although Sylvie had traveled to Rome for leisure rather than work, she spotted a chance for Emily to blend both worlds by joining forces with Marcello. Initially, Umberto Muratori’s family business showed reluctance towards marketing and even more so towards hiring a French agency like Agence Grateau. However, Emily’s innovative suggestions managed to ignite a spark in Marcello’s mother, Antonia, who eventually agreed to collaborate with Agence Grateau despite the team’s attempts to deceive by claiming they had an office in Rome.
Following Antonia’s agreement, Agence Grateau must establish an office in Rome within six months, thereby concluding the Muratoris’ partnership with JVMA. Emily’s closeness to the Muratori account and her personal relationship with him has made Marcello doubt her motives towards him. Initially, she expresses no interest in dealing with the account further. However, Sylvie doesn’t intend for either Julien or Luc to manage the Rome office. Instead, she offers the position to Emily.
Emily doesn’t have time to ponder or respond about her upcoming relocation, as Sylvie has already arranged a temporary apartment in Rome for her during her management of the Muratori account. Upon seeing her new dwelling for the first time, she glances out the window, reminiscent of when she moved to Paris in season 1. Before switching her Instagram username, Emily is interrupted by a knock on the door – it’s Marcello, here to whisk her away on a scooter ride.
Gabriel wants Emily back
By the close of season 4 part 1, Gabriel discovered that his efforts to gain favor with someone uncapable of granting him a Michelin star were futile. However, in season 4 part 2, he managed to secure one for himself. To share this wonderful news, he phoned Emily who was in Rome at the time. In response, she immediately returned his call to leave a congratulatory voicemail in French, expressing her pride in his accomplishment. This revelation led Gabriel to understand that he had erred in letting her go.
When Mindy unexpectedly encounters Gabriel, Alfie, and Antoine outside a restaurant, she nonchalantly announces that Emily is relocating to Rome. This news visibly upsets Gabriel as he realizes Emily will no longer reside in Paris. Intriguingly, it’s Alfie – who happens to be in a fresh relationship – who encourages him not to wallow but to take action and win Emily back. Although the ending seems to suggest Gabriel reached Emily’s doorstep in Rome, he is actually at her apartment in Paris, seeking guidance from Mindy on how to locate her. Hurry up and find her!
Mindy lands a new job in China
Due to his self-centered and envious behavior surfacing, Mindy and Nicolas ended their relationship. This separation had its consequences for Mindy, such as being disqualified from Eurovision because Nicolas used her song “Mon Soleil” in a sunscreen advertisement, which violates Eurovision rules. Feeling down and seeking a change of environment, Mindy boarded the next plane to Rome to escape Paris and spend some time with her dearest friend.
As I stroll around the city with Emily, I spontaneously leap onto a public piano to play my freshly penned original composition titled “Beautiful Ruins.” Emily swiftly captures the song on tape, but later, a traveler shares a recording of it on TikTok. To my amazement, the track takes off and gains massive popularity. Incredulously, Chinese Popstar, the show I once struggled to break into, extends an invitation to me, offering me a role as a judge and the chance to perform “Beautiful Ruins.” It seems I’ve finally earned my redemption, and I’m bound for China. But don’t you worry, Emily—I promise to reconnect with you in Rome soon. Keep shining, Mindy!
