Yes, Emily chooses Gabriel over Alfie

Offering my sympathies to those who held out hope for Emily and Alfie’s reunion in season 4 part 1, as they clung to hope, faith, and prayers. Although Emily and Alfie do reconcile and improve their relationship, Emily ends up choosing Gabriel over Alfie at the masquerade party. Despite Alfie expressing his feelings for her, Emily’s own feelings for the charming French chef proved stronger than any possibility of a second chance with the British entrepreneur.

In the last episode of season 4 part 1, Gabriel confesses his love to Emily, and she responds with “I love you” as well. This heartfelt moment is significant because it’s something they’ve both been waiting for a long time. Their words aren’t spoken carelessly; they carry weight! This revelation marks a major turning point for the characters and the show. Although obstacles still lie ahead for this smitten pair, they are now firmly established, devoted to each other, and oh so cute!

As a devoted fan, I must admit my excitement was slightly dampened when Lucien Laviscount wasn’t listed as a main cast member for season 4, especially considering his character Alfie only made an appearance in two of the five episodes in part 1. However, the anticipation is building as rumors swirl that Alfie will be back for at least one (maybe even more) episodes in part 2. Emily and Alfie still have some lingering issues to resolve, and it seems they need closure before moving on.

Gabriel doesn’t get his star

Unfortunately, despite Gabriel’s best efforts, he hasn’t received a Michelin star yet. However, this isn’t because of his lack of talent as a chef or insufficient attempts. In reality, Luc’s girlfriend, Marianne, had been pretending to be a Michelin inspector to impress Luc. But, she no longer holds that position and thus, couldn’t influence the awarding of a star for Gabriel. This disappointment is particularly hard on Gabriel because he had gone to great lengths to earn this prestigious career milestone, even hiring an overly meticulous pastry chef whom he found difficult to work with.

In the midseason finale of season 4, when Emily shares some news with Gabriel, she anticipates any possible emotional responses from him – be it anger, sadness, or frustration. Following the dismissal and eviction of the pastry chef (a fiery scene to put it mildly), Gabriel experiences a sense of relief. In essence, he’s glad to be rid of that burden. With his loving partner Emily and a baby on the way, he’s looking forward to moving past this issue. However…

Camille isn’t actually pregnant (and never was)

As a die-hard fan, I must admit that I almost believed Emily in Paris season 4 part 1 was going to see Camille and Gabriel becoming parents. However, the moment the twist unfolded in season 3, it felt like the other shoe was bound to fall – and it did! When Camille visited the doctor, she discovered the heart-wrenching truth: she wasn’t actually pregnant. The positive pregnancy test she received earlier turned out to be a false alarm, and she had never confirmed the pregnancy with a doctor’s visit. This latest revelation is yet another gut-wrenching twist in Camille’s storyline.

Previously in the season, Camille disappeared following a canceled wedding, only to resurface in Paris when Emily located her and had a heated confrontation by a pond (a rather complex situation). Later on, Camille started dating Sofia while residing with Gabriel. After relocating to an apartment adjacent to theirs, the relationship between Camille and Sofia, as well as Emily’s and Gabriel’s, became strained. Under mounting stress, Sofia ended her relationship with Camille and departed back to Greece.

In this scenario, when Camille learns that she won’t be a mother with Gabriel and isn’t involved with Sofia, she’s once again faced with a critical juncture. She’s ready to disclose the sad news about the pregnancy to Gabriel, but upon witnessing his joy in being in love with Emily, freed from the Michelin star drama, and on the verge of fatherhood, Camille decides to keep up the pretense of still being pregnant. However, it’s revealed later (in part 2) that he will uncover the truth, which could potentially shatter his trust in Camille.

Watch Emily in Paris only on Netflix. Season 4 part 4 premieres Thursday, Sept. 12.
