Emily in Paris creator says Camille's bombshell 'affects everybody's relationship' in part 2

As a seasoned gamer of romantic comedies and a long-time fan of Emily in Paris, I must say that Darren Star has once again managed to keep us on our toes with this latest twist. It’s always a thrill when a show manages to surprise me, but it’s also a double-edged sword – the more invested we get, the harder it is to handle those unexpected turns!

Warning: MAJOR spoilers ahead from Emily in Paris season 4 part 1.

The initial portion of Emily in Paris Season 4 has addressed numerous intriguing queries concerning our beloved characters and their connections, but it has also sparked additional curiosity as we move forward in this much-anticipated installment of the romantic comedy series.

In the previous season, Camille’s unexpected pregnancy announcement caused complications for Emily and Gabriel’s possible reunion, as they were both left without partners following the breakdown of their respective relationships. However, after facing numerous challenges, they manage to make things work during the first half of season 4.

In the midseason finale, Camille learns that her initial pregnancy test was false, revealing she was never actually pregnant. Despite this, she finds herself relieved when observing Gabriel’s newfound freedom from Michelin star pressures and his happiness with Emily. To hide her true feelings, Camille pretends to still be carrying the baby.

Creator Darren Star, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, hinted at the potential consequences of Camille’s hidden truth that remains untold in the second part of Emily in Paris.

It will play out, and I think it’s something that, like the character herself, is very shocking. I think she’s put in a situation of feeling like she certainly never meant to deceive anybody, and she’s pretty devastated about it. So it does play out in a way that affects everybody’s relationship in part two.

Everybody’s relationship?! Quickly define “everybody,” Darren!

Camille better not break up Emily and Gabriel

From my perspective, I can empathize with Camille’s decision to keep the truth about her pregnancy hidden at that particular moment. She was likely trying to protect Gabriel’s feelings during his celebration and avoid ruining his high spirits. Yet, it’s important to distinguish between concealing the truth of the pregnancy and falsely pretending to still be pregnant.

Having been through my fair share of disappointments and setbacks, I can say with certainty that Gabriel won’t handle Camille’s news in the same calm manner as he did when he learned about not receiving a Michelin star. The difference here is trust – something that’s deeply important to him. As someone who has also gone through difficult situations myself, I understand how hard it can be to navigate them, especially when you’re unsure of what the right move is. However, Camille’s choice, which only added to everyone’s pain, is a real shame. It’s a reminder that life isn’t always easy and sometimes people make decisions that have far-reaching consequences.

Given that Emily and Gabriel are still in the early stages of their romance, having built a strong friendship foundation for quite some time, this twist could significantly affect their delicate honeymoon phase. As a fresh couple, they might find it challenging to handle this unexpected development. Already, Emily has endured less than perfect situations just to be with her beloved, and it’s unclear if this new shock will push them beyond their limits.

In any romantic comedy like the one we’re watching, it’s important to remember that things can never be completely smooth sailing for the main couple. After Emily and Gabriel became a pair by the third episode of season 4, which has ten episodes in total, there was some reason to worry. Even though they professed their love for each other in episode 5, it’s hard not to harbor doubts about whether it’s too good to be true – a concern that Emily herself openly expresses.

In my gaming world, when you complete a level, there’s always a new challenge lurking around the corner. Just like the star mentioned in his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, our favorite couple in part 2 of their story will undoubtedly face unexpected hurdles now that the enchantment has worn off.

The course of love never goes smoothly. I think there’ll be unexpected obstacles. But more than that, I think as they really get to know each other, they see each other less as fantasies. The infatuation period is over, and it’s about being more realistic about who they are. Like any relationship, you have your romantic fantasy period, and then you have reality. So, I think that’s the process they’re going through. It doesn’t mean that they’re gonna fall out of love. But they have to sort of confront the realities of who they really are.

Absolutely, much like any genuine relationship, it won’t always be a bed of roses for Emily and Gabriel. Remember, we’re talking about television here! They require some authentic obstacles to truly test their love and confirm that they’re committed for the long term, not just caught up in a romantic fantasy. (And trust me, they are definitely in it for the long haul!)

In the second half of season 4, Emily in Paris finds herself and her relationship in a stable state, but as Star hints, things might become rough for them soon. Upcoming events include Emily’s trip to Rome, where she is expected to have another geometry-themed encounter with an enigmatic man. Brace yourselves for another turbulent chapter in Emily’s intricate life, airing on September 12!

Watch Emily in Paris only on Netflix.
