Emilia Clarke to Headline Spy Thriller Series Ponies

As a seasoned gamer of both the small and big screen, I must say that the casting of Emilia Clarke as Bea in the upcoming espionage thriller “Ponies” has me positively thrilled! With her impressive resume spanning from Game of Thrones to The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Secret Invasion, Clarke has proven time and again that she can bring complexity and depth to even the most intriguing characters.

Actress Emilia Clarke, who was nominated for an Emmy Award, will take the lead role in the upcoming spy-thriller series titled “Ponies,” which streaming platform Peacock has greenlit directly for production.

Known for her iconic portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, Clarke will be taking on the role of Bea in the upcoming series.

1977, Moscow. Two seemingly ordinary individuals, known as ‘Persons of No Interest’ within intelligence circles, worked discreetly as secretaries at the American Embassy. However, their lives took an unexpected turn when their spouses were mysteriously killed in the Soviet Union. This tragedy transformed them into covert CIA agents.

Who’s involved in Ponies?

In collaboration, Susanna Fogel (known for The Spy Who Dumped Me) and David Iserson (Mr. Robot fame) have jointly created Ponies. Susanna takes on multiple roles, including executive producer, director, and co-writer. As for Iserson, he assumes the duties of co-writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

Beyond her acting role, Clarke will also take on the executive producer position, joining Jessica Rhoades (Station Eleven), Fogel, and Iserson in this capacity. Katherine Bridle and Alison Mo Massey are set to serve as co-executive producers. The series Ponies is produced by Universal Television, a subsidiary of Universal Studio Group.

In her current role working on the limited series Criminal, Clarke boasts an impressive collection of film and TV credits. Notable among these are Spike Island, Dom Hemingway, Terminator Genisys, Me Before You, Voice from the Stone, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Above Suspicion, Last Christmas, and The Amazing Maurice (where she lent her voice to Malicia in the 2022 animated fantasy comedy).

More recently, I’ve stepped into the roles of G’iah in Marvel’s Secret Invasion mini-series and Rachel Novy within the sci-fi romance comedy The Pod Generation.

Other details about Ponies, including stars joining Clarke, remain under wraps.
