Elsbeth and Tracker season 2's episode counts have been bumped up!

As a dedicated gamer and avid TV fan, I can’t help but feel elated at the news that CBS’s “Tracker” and “Elsbeth” will each be gracing our screens with more episodes in their sophomore seasons. The 2023-24 network TV season was a rollercoaster ride due to the WGA and SAG strikes, which forced productions to halt and delayed the regular fall seasons until February.

For those looking forward to CBS’s fall lineup, here’s some exciting news: The fan base of “Tracker” and “Elsbeth” can look forward to more episodes in the second season of these shows!

As a dedicated fan, I have to admit that the 2023-24 network TV season didn’t live up to my expectations. The summer and fall were marred by the WGA and SAG strikes, which unfortunately put a halt to many productions. Consequently, CBS had to postpone their regular fall seasons until February. Most shows opted for a shorter run of 10 to 13 episodes instead.

The new television series, “Tracker” with Justin Hartley starring as Colter Shaw, debuted spectacularly right after the Super Bowl, attracting a large audience from the get-go. This heartwarming show about Colter’s travels across the country to aid those in need became an instant ratings success and was promptly renewed for another season.

A noteworthy example is the show “Elsbeth,” featuring Carrie Preston reprising her Emmy-winning role from “The Good Wife” as Elsbeth Tascioni. This lawyer relocated to New York City to assist the police department and swiftly became embroiled in resolving homicides. The broadcast schedule was intriguing, with its debut on February 29 – a choice likely made due to the unusual relevance of having an eccentric character debut on Leap Day. After that, the show took the entire month of March off before continuing with its usual airing on April 4. Despite this unusual scheduling, “Elsbeth” was successful enough to secure a second season.

As production begins, the number of episodes per show remains uncertain. Here’s what we currently understand!

How many episodes will Tracker and Elsbeth have for season 2?

According to TVLine, it seems that “Elsbeth” will have 20 episodes in its second season, while “Tracker” will consist of 22 episodes. This is typical for CBS’ scripted shows, making it understandable why each program reaches this number.

Elsbeth’s stories are self-contained with the guest star playing the role of the murderer, and Elsbeth’s solution to each case being a significant aspect. The series doesn’t go on for too long, making a 20-episode run ideal. Elsbeth’s charming performance is a highlight, and the show airs Thursdays after “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” “Ghosts,” and “Matlock.”

Tracker has a more dispersed and active style across the country, featuring a smaller ensemble cast with Hartley serving as the primary attraction. Each episode presents a self-contained storyline, though season 2 is set to explore Colter’s deeper family mysteries. The number of episodes, at 22, aligns conveniently with The Equalizer’s fifth season, which will consist of 18 episodes.

CBS’s lineup seems set, and the showmakers are probably excited to utilize additional episodes to enhance storylines and expand upon what made the first season successful. Consequently, viewers are anxiously waiting to find out how both Elsbeth and Tracker will fare in their second seasons with more episodes and continue to captivate CBS audiences.

The second season of “Elsbeth” will begin airing on Thursdays, starting October 17 at 10:00/9:00 p.m. Central Time. Meanwhile, “Tracker” fans can look forward to new episodes every Sunday, starting October 27 at 8:30/7:30 p.m. Central Time.
