Elon Musk Lied – And Got Exposed By The Gaming Community

As an ardent admirer, I’ll share a tale about a time when I, much like Elon Musk, aimed to demonstrate my exceptional skills in the realm of “Path of Exile 2.” However, it seems my claims were met with skepticism and accusations of dishonesty.

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel that Elon Musk frequently gives off an air of superiority, but from my perspective, it often appears as though he craves validation from others. His accomplishments and feats may seem impressive to some, yet they seem to matter most to him when others acknowledge them.

Yet, despite his assertion that he adores video games, it could be that he imagines himself as an expert player in practically every game as soon as he begins to play.

Or:

Though he professes his affection for video games, perhaps it is the case that he thinks of himself as a seasoned player in almost every game once he starts playing them.

When he attempted to display his expertise in “Path of Exile 2” on a live stream, he was challenged by the gaming community, thus questioning his claim as a seasoned “PoE2” player.

Was it really Musk’s character he was playing?

Quinn “Quin69” Crawford and Kripparrian expressed their thoughts on Elon Musk’s performance in the game, suggesting multiple clues that implied Musk might not have been fully aware of what he was doing and that someone else could have created his account and character instead.

Quin69 is recognized as an authority in the action RPG genre, particularly with Path of Exile. On the other hand, Kripp has a broad gaming portfolio and was one of the most prominent Diablo 4 streamers on Twitch.

The narrative began as Musk unveiled a folder labeled “Elon’s map” within his character’s cache. This title struck many observers as peculiar because it’s not common for such a game-related tab to be named specifically after an individual, particularly when one might expect something like “maps” or “my maps.” However, some may argue that a figure as self-referential as Musk could even choose to refer to himself in the third person.

Unfortunately for Musk, there is way more than this.

A fundamental misunderstanding of the game

Many events occurring during his live broadcast strongly suggested that someone else played a significant role in helping him reach his present skill level of 95.

Although his occasional erratic actions, such as neglecting to replenish his depleted mana bar, might suggest that he’s not taking the game too seriously while demonstrating his skills, repeatedly clicking on unresponsive areas of the Atlas map, entering a loot-focused game with a fully loaded inventory, and even overlooking one of the most precious resources in the game, a Chaos Orb, have been clear signs pointing to Musk’s lack of familiarity with the game’s mechanics.

One of the strongest pieces of evidence supporting Quin69 and Kripp is Musk’s discussion about his equipment. When Elon Musk, CEO of X, noticed that his weapons were merely “level 62”, he seemed to fundamentally misunderstand that an item’s effectiveness isn’t solely based on its level requirement, but rather on its item level. This is a simplified and more natural rephrasing of the original statement.

Instead of continually making the same error, he critiques his equipment setup by stating that it’s relatively basic for his character, despite the fact that his weapons were painstakingly selected, created, and modified to optimally suit his character’s build.

As a dedicated fan myself, not just the two streamers, but also the community members on the Path of Exile 2 (PoE2) subreddit voiced their concerns, pointing out that this was quite unusual.

People doubting if Musk is a gamer at all

Some users commented: “His equipment surpasses that of many full-time streamers, which seems suspicious. I suspect account sharing or some form of enhancement.”, another said “He has a staff that looks like it’s from the mirror tier, and yet he mentions needing to replace it because it’s only level 62. This is enough to raise doubts.”

Some also raised doubts about whether Musk’s boasts about playing Diablo 4 might also be exaggerated or even false, with the possibility that his self-proclaimed status as a professional player could simply serve to boost his ego.

One user summed all of this up asking:

The weird part to me is that he feels he needs to brag about being a pro gamer for some reason. Dude put a car his company designed into space on a rocket his other company designed, why the hell does he need to brag about gaming?

Following those events, it became clear to the players that Musk’s in-game character seemed to have perished – a situation fatal since there was no respawning in this game. Some speculated whether Musk aimed to disprove the allegations, demonstrate his exceptional gaming prowess, and meet his untimely demise.

What do you make of everything that happened? In your opinion, is Elon Musk genuinely skilled at video games, or do you believe it’s all an elaborate hoax?
