Elon Musk Criticized by I, Robot Director for Tesla Design Similarities

As a long-time fan of both science fiction and cutting-edge technology, I must say that the recent allegations by Alex Proyas, the visionary director behind I, Robot, against Elon Musk have certainly piqued my interest. While I’ve always admired Musk’s innovative spirit and relentless pursuit of progress, it’s fascinating to see such a direct connection between his work and that of Proyas from over a decade ago.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, recently showcased the designs for his new Robotaxi, Robovan, and humanoid robots at an event. However, these designs have received criticism from Alex Proyas, director of the 2004 movie I, Robot. In a social media post, Proyas suggested that Musk’s designs bore a striking resemblance to those seen in his science fiction film, and even shared a side-by-side comparison image.

I, Robot director Alex Proyas asks Elon Musk to return his designs

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m sharing an interesting tidbit: Director Alex Proyas, known for the I, Robot movie, recently voiced his concerns on his old X (formerly Twitter) platform. He accused Elon Musk of mimicking the designs of his android robots and cars from the 2004 film in his latest unveilings. To support his claim, Proyas posted a side-by-side comparison of the movie’s design and what Musk presented at his event. Moreover, he playfully asked, “Hey Elon, could you kindly return my designs? #ElonMusk #Elon_Musk.

Despite Proyas’ accusations, Musk has yet to provide any direct responses. On October 10th, the tech entrepreneur hosted an event called “We, Robot,” reminiscent of the film’s title, “I, Robot.” During this event, Musk showcased his Robotaxi, Robovan, and a series of humanoid robots he had developed.

As reported by CNBC, a driverless two-seater vehicle known as the Robotaxi has been introduced, while the Robovan is designed for transporting larger groups of people and goods. Furthermore, Elon Musk provided a sneak peek at a series of humanoid robots called Optimus, allowing event attendees to engage with them. The Optimus robots showcased an array of talents, including singing and dancing, among other abilities.
