Elizabeth Banks Says Her Invisible Woman Movie Is No Longer in Active Development

As a die-hard fan of Elizabeth Banks and her versatile acting skills, it’s always a thrill to see her take on new projects. From “Pitch Perfect” to “Charlie’s Angels,” she has consistently impressed us with her directorial prowess. However, the news about her Invisible Woman movie being put on hold is a bit of a letdown.

Elizabeth Banks says that her The Invisible Woman movie is no longer in active development.

Back in 2019, it became known that Banks would be handling the direction, production, and acting in a fresh take on The Invisible Woman. However, updates regarding this project have been scarce since then. Nonetheless, Leigh Whannell recently brought out The Invisible Man under Universal Pictures, which hit the screens in February 2020.

According to Banks, since a sequel for The Invisible Man is currently in its initial stages, the production of her Invisible Woman film has been temporarily paused for now.

What did Elizabeth Banks say about her The Invisible Woman movie?

As a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement when I hear about it! Universal has not only produced an Invisible Man movie but is planning to make another one. While this intriguing concept remains on their radar, it’s not something I’m actively involved with at the moment. Instead, I’m engrossed in creating a television show currently, and once that’s done, I’ll move onto another TV project. After that, who knows? We may just figure out what our next move is!

Previously, Banks has taken charge of numerous productions, such as Pitch Perfect 2 (2015), Charlie’s Angels (2019), and Cocaine Bear (2023). She is now set to appear in a new crime thriller titled Skincare, which IFC Films will debut in U.S. theaters on August 16, 2024.

In Whannell’s film The Invisible Man, actress Elisabeth Moss was joined by Aldis Hodge, Storm Reid, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Harriet Dyer, and Michael Dorman. The movie grossed around $144.5 million worldwide on a production budget of roughly $7 million.

In an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in April 2024, Moss revealed that while Whannell is busy with Wolf Man for Blumhouse, they are “nearer than ever before” to solving the story’s puzzle. At the moment, more specifics about the project are being kept secret.
