According to IGN, during their recent financial earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed that Electronic Arts (EA) is planning to combine quality and affordability in their future projects. He pointed out that EA’s pricing model has changed dramatically compared to a decade ago, when they primarily focused on selling physical video games in stores. Nowadays, while physical sales still contribute to the company, Wilson described it as a “much smaller” part of their operations. Today, EA offers a variety of pricing options, from free-to-play games to more expensive deluxe versions.
In simpler terms, this executive emphasized that no matter if we’re working on something inexpensive or expensive, our primary goal remains providing exceptional quality and substantial value to our user base. Over time, they’ve found that combining quality and value consistently strengthens and grows our business.
Financial Officer Stuart Canfield echoed Wilson’s remarks, confirming that, regarding our existing pricing approach, there have been no adjustments as of now.
As an enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating EA’s latest offerings, including the upcoming versions of Sports FC, Madden, and Battlefield. It looks like these games will retail at their standard price of around $70 USD when they hit the shelves.
In early May, Microsoft made an adjustment to the costs of the Xbox console, its controllers, and headsets, with no specific information yet provided about potential price hikes for certain video game titles. According to IGN’s report, over the past five years, AAA games have risen from $60 USD to $70 USD, while Nintendo charges $80 USD for games like “Mario Kart World” on the Switch 2. The Nintendo Switch 2 system itself currently retails at a substantial price of $450 USD.
