Summary
- Elden Ring Nightreign is a PvE co-op spinoff with predetermined playable characters, including Duchess.
- Duchess appears to offer a fast-paced, dexterity-based playstyle with Restage and Finale abilities.
- Three more characters are yet to be revealed before Elden Ring Nightreign’s launch on May 30.
A fresh preview has emerged for Duchess, one of the eight selectable characters in Elden Ring: Nightreign, a PvE cooperative spinoff from the 2022 open-world sensation developed by FromSoftware, Elden Ring. This game is more akin to battle royale gameplay, where players parachute into a randomly generated area called Limveld, which mirrors Limgrave. The goal is to gather equipment and increase character levels over the course of three days and nights, culminating in a climactic boss fight on day three’s finale.
In contrast to Elden Ring, Nightreign does not offer a character creator or any visual customization options; instead, its eight playable characters are already established and unchangeable. Four of these characters have been officially presented by developer FromSoftware. Among them, Wylder is the main character shown on the game’s cover art, acting as an all-arounder with a sword and shield. Guardian, another revealed character, stands out visually due to its humanoid falcon appearance, wielding a two-handed ax and giant shield, suggesting a heavier playstyle. The mage of Nightreign is a woman called Recluse, while Ironeye embodies the role of the game’s archer.
Approaching the final 6 weeks before the unveiling of Elden Ring Nightreign, game developer FromSoftware has shared another gameplay trailer introducing one of its characters, Duchess. In this video, Duchess is portrayed wielding a dagger, suggesting she may offer an action-packed, high-damage playstyle with her nimble movement and swift combos. Her skillset showcased in the trailer includes Restage, which reflects damage inflicted on enemies back onto them, and Finale, a cloaking ability that makes players and nearby allies invisible to enemy detection, enabling either a hasty retreat or a stealthy attack.
Elden Ring Nightreign Reveals Duchess Character
The Duchess in the trailer appears to handle a big sword, implying that players might customize her to carry heavier weapons. With five out of eight Elden Ring Nightreign characters unveiled, three more remain hidden. The game’s 2024 Game Awards announcement suggests that one of these unknown characters could be another heavy-type hero brandishing a massive hammer, and the other might be a nimble warrior using swords. Unfortunately, the original trailer doesn’t reveal much about the eighth and final character.
The highly anticipated Elden Ring Nightreign is scheduled to release on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on May 30th. FromSoftware has hinted at unveiling the remaining three heroes in the lead-up to launch in the upcoming weeks. In other news from the same developer, a brand new PvPvE game called The Duskbloods was teased last week as an exclusive for the 2026 Nintendo Switch 2. Both FromSoftware and Nintendo enthusiasts are buzzing with anticipation, eagerly waiting for any fresh insights about the enigmatic multiplayer game that bears a striking resemblance to Bloodborne.
