This week, FromSoftware revealed plans for a forthcoming update aimed at enhancing Elden Ring Nightreign‘s single-player experience. The highly anticipated game has garnered a mix of reviews, with some critics noting it falls short compared to several of its predecessors. A significant number of Steam users have voiced concerns about the game’s multiplayer aspects, specifically, the absence of features like cooperative play for two players, in-game voice communication, and cross-platform compatibility. Nevertheless, Nightreign astonishingly attracted over three hundred thousand simultaneous players within the first hour of its Steam debut. This number could rise over the weekend, and perhaps next week, when the update is released, it may entice more solo gamers to confront the Nightlord.
Elden Ring Nightreign steals a page out of Sekiro’s book to improve solo play
In their social media posts, the official Elden Ring account revealed details about the upcoming patch, emphasizing the benefits for solo players. One such benefit is the new “Automatic Revival Upon Defeat” effect, similar to Sekiro’s second chance mechanic, which grants a revival opportunity after a night boss battle. For solo adventurers, this means less risk and more chances to overcome challenges. Previously, in a group of three players, a fallen comrade could be revived by others. However, without the support of other players, the solo mode often presented an all-or-nothing scenario. To aid these lone warriors, the patch will also increase the amount of runes earned, allowing for more frequent leveling up and access to additional useful items.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been keeping an eye on the updates from FromSoftware, and let me tell you, I’m genuinely impressed by their speed in addressing player concerns. For instance, cross-play and a two-player mode are still being worked on, but the fact that they’re actively addressing these issues is commendable. One user expressed it beautifully when they said, “Brilliant adjustments! Kudos for swiftly responding to feedback!” If this pace of listening to player feedback and implementing changes is any indication, it could be a positive sign of more substantial updates down the line. The team has already acknowledged the absence of a two-player mode, so perhaps we can expect it in a future update.
The same Elden Ring social media account also announced that Nightreign achieved a significant achievement: Over 2 million gamers are now known as Nightfarers. Since Nightreign isn’t part of any subscription services such as Game Pass or PS Plus, this suggests that the game sold more than 2 million copies on its launch day. However, FromSoftware opted to express it in a less straightforward manner.
The intriguing new title, “Elden Ring Nightreign,” marks a fresh path for FromSoftware, a studio renowned for its tough single-player games. With a few tweaks, “Nightreign” might become the game that fans have been eagerly anticipating. However, it currently doesn’t seem destined to vie for Game of the Year again. Now that this multiplayer experience from FromSoftware has arrived, I’m personally intrigued to observe how it influences their future project, “The Duskbloods,” an exclusive multiplayer game on the rumored Nintendo Switch 2.
