Elden Ring Nightreign Climbs Steam’s Top Paid Charts

In a few short days, the highly anticipated game Elden Ring: Nightreign will be released, and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment is increasing promotional efforts with character introductions, collaborations with streamers, and detailed previews of the player experiences coming later in the month. Although there has been some hesitation regarding its multiplayer emphasis, Elden Ring: Nightreign has already made its way onto Steam’s list of top-selling games.

Elden Ring Nightreign Tops Steam Charts

For quite some time now, Elden Ring: Nightreign has been up for pre-purchase across all platforms. As its release date swiftly approaches, it’s soaring up the Steam charts in anticipation, taking the lead ahead of launch and standing shoulder to shoulder with Counter-Strike 2. In the category of paid titles, it’s surpassed FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time by climbing to the highest position.

A substantial number of FromSoftware’s fanbase consists of Steam users, making it understandable that their upcoming main game has already gained strong sales figures prior to launching.

For several years, FromSoftware has been adding multiplayer features to its games, such as invasions, summons, and Player vs. Player arenas. These elements are common in their Souls-like games, and they’ve even appeared in the Armored Core series. It was evident that they wanted to develop a comprehensive multiplayer experience, and Elden Ring: Nightreign represents their significant foray into cooperative PvE gameplay with a roguelike foundation.

Enthusiasts who typically anticipate the studio’s solo games have shown some reservation, yet the game’s reduced $40 cost and faith in the studio have given Nightreign a generally favorable stance.

According to FromSoftware, the game Nightreign won’t be a service that operates in real-time and there will be no microtransactions involved. However, additional content as Downloadable Content (DLC) has been planned, but players should not anticipate features such as a battle pass or paid customization items.

As a fan of the multiplayer features in FromSoftware’s games, I have some apprehension regarding the server performance at launch. Although raids and team-ups can be thrilling, they’ve historically had issues with stability. Given that Nightreign heavily relies on co-op play, I fervently hope that additional precautions have been taken to guarantee a seamless experience when it releases on May 30, 2025, across all platforms.

Sadly, Elden Ring: Nightreign doesn’t allow cross-platform play among different consoles at this time. However, it does support crossplay within the same console family. This means you can’t team up with friends using other systems to play, which is disappointing and I hope they consider improving in future updates.

It’s quite possible that Elden Ring: Nightreign will have a successful debut. Its affordable price and reputation for top-notch quality from FromSoftware should alleviate any doubts. Moreover, it’s uncommon to find a multiplayer game offering a full experience at launch in today’s live-service model, which adds to its appeal.
