Elden Ring movie director reveals how he’s getting through his 7th playthrough, ‘It’s like monkeys and typewriters—you just keep doing it’

I wouldn’t dream of embarking on my seventh playthrough of Elden Ring. Not only am I captive to my own compulsive tendencies, which can transform a casual activity into an all-consuming race. But honestly, I question whether I possess the abilities needed to be trapped in what feels like an endless loop; a predicament that Alex Garland, the director of the upcoming Elden Ring movie, apparently doesn’t face.

According to a recent interview with IGN, Garland mentioned that he’s completed Elden Ring for the seventh time and expressed his opinion that one of the game’s iconic enemies, Radahn, isn’t as challenging as others might think. He explains, “I found Radahn to be quite manageable. If you trigger the characters who can aid you in that battle, they’ll engage with him, reducing his health significantly, and then you can easily defeat him. The key is activating those small summon signs scattered around.

2. Elden Ring Blaidd Quest: Track the Wolfman

3. Elden Ring Nepheli Quest: Follow the Warrior Woman

4. Elden Ring Fia Quest: Seek Cold Comfort

5. Elden Ring Volcano Manor Quest: Unravel Mt. Gelmir’s Mystery

Exceptional guidance that resonates strongly. Some of you might be nodding skeptically, questioning this strategy as an unfair advantage since external assistance is involved. However, if it were truly against the rules, FromSoftware wouldn’t have included it in their game! This applies to mimics as well!

In Elden Ring, not every boss offers assistance. Instead, challenges arise, such as Malenia who proves to be particularly difficult. Garland explains, “Malenia is the one causing trouble for me.” Currently, he’s in his seventh playthrough of the game. He’s boosted his character, gathered various resources, and equipped a powerful sword, but despite repeated attempts, he still struggles against her.

The method I mastered from playing Dark Souls is this: It’s not about improving yourself; it’s akin to repeatedly typing on a monkey’s typewriter. You simply persist in doing it, and before you know it, one day your opponent has been defeated.

There’s something inside me that won’t let go. Whether it’s ego, foolishness, or sheer determination, once I decide to eliminate a boss, I persist in my efforts until I succeed, no matter the cost. However, the wise choice would be to retreat and gain more power first, but I guess I don’t fit into the category of being wise, so I press on.

It appears Garland didn’t seize the opportunity to reveal specifics about the forthcoming film. However, given that the director is currently on his seventh playthrough of Elden Ring and George R.R. Martin is listed as the producer, it’s safe to say we have a highly enthusiastic, potentially dizzy, Elden Ring fanatic on our hands.
