Elden Ring 2 isn’t being considered at FromSoftware, but Miyzaki wants it to return “in some form”

As a seasoned gamer who has traversed countless dungeons and slain fearsome beasts under the guidance of FromSoftware, I must say I am both crestfallen and intrigued by the news that Elden Ring 2 isn’t on the horizon.

FromSoftware, the creators behind Dark Souls, have shared they’re not working on Elden Ring 2 at the moment. Instead, following the launch of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, their focus lies on multiple upcoming ventures in different directions.

Although there’s much anticipation among players for another installment of Elden Ring, director Hidetaka Miyazaki clarified that the idea of Elden Ring 2 hasn’t been discussed within the company yet. A possible sequel might materialize down the line, but gamers may need to exercise patience and wait quite a while before it becomes available.

Elden Ring 2 isn’t happening

According to IGN Japan, the president of From Software has shared that a direct sequel to their open-world game is currently not being planned. During the PlayStation Partner Awards 2024 ceremony, this renowned figure in gaming expressed bluntly that the prospect of a continuation isn’t imminent at this time.

At the awards event, Miyazaki shared that they are not actively thinking about creating a sequel like Elden Ring 2.

Instead, the game director clarified that the IP (intellectual property) won’t be immediately phased out. Miyazaki hinted that the series might resurface “in a different shape down the line”, though it may not necessarily reappear as a video game.

Multiple games in the works

During the award ceremony, Hidetaka Miyazaki shared that FromSoftware is actively developing a variety of upcoming projects, which most likely are video games. Although no specific titles were disclosed, there’s excitement about the possibility of another Souls-like game being in production along with a new installment of Armored Core.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but marvel at FromSoftware’s dedication to Elden Ring and its upcoming DLC, having invested years into its creation. It’s evident they are yearning to delve into another captivating universe. Whether they choose to continue the open-world trend or revisit the intricate hub-based environments of Dark Souls, I am confident that their next project will be nothing short of extraordinary.
