In conversation with Collider, Doug Liman hinted at the potential for an Edge of Tomorrow sequel, given the stellar fame of stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. He mentioned that he’s currently working on finding a solution for the project.
In the interview, Liman expressed that Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise are currently at the pinnacle of their acting careers. Given this fact, he’s eagerly working on brainstorming ideas for a sequel, hence his current focus is on finding a solution to make one.
1. Apart from acknowledging the hurdles associated with creating a script about time travel, the director also admitted to the challenges that come with it. In a recent interview about Edge of Tomorrow 2, The Bourne Identity’s director explained, “Time travel is difficult. To make a movie involving time travel, you eventually realize that it’s almost impossible for humans to truly travel through time because it becomes challenging to devise a satisfying third act when working with time travel.”
Liman acknowledged that a sequel could be highly profitable based on the success of the initial installment. Nevertheless, he underscored the significance of crafting a compelling story, regardless of its predecessor’s fame, adding, “We have enough self-respect in our craft to never settle for an easy win.”
Based on recent information from Liman, the development of Edge of Tomorrow 2 is at a standstill in terms of concept. However, it’s worth noting that while progress might be slow, the idea of a sequel hasn’t been entirely discarded.
