What happens in the Eddington trailer?
The Eddington trailer hints at conflict between Phoenix and Pascal’s on-screen personas, as they reside in a tight-knit community where residents harbor resentment towards each other, primarily due to the ongoing struggles caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
In the month of May 2020, a tense confrontation between a sheriff from a small town, played by Joaquin Phoenix, and the mayor, portrayed by Pedro Pascal, ignites a volatile situation. The residents of Eddington, New Mexico find themselves at odds with each other as one neighbor is set against another.
Besides Tom Holland, the film’s ensemble features Austin Butler, Emma Stone, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Michael Ward, Clifton Collins Jr., Amélie Hoeferle, and William Belleau as well.
Last month, the movie “Eddington” debuted at the Cannes Film Festival. Critics have given mixed opinions about the film; some, like David Ehrlich from Indiewire, appreciated its satirical portrayal of COVID and contemporary society, while others, such as Kevin Maher from The Times, felt that the movie seems uncertain about what it is trying to convey. At present, “Eddington” has a rating of 65% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 49 reviews.
In 2023, when Beau Is Afraid premiered, Aster encountered a situation much like before, as the film garnered both positive and negative critiques. Earlier on, Aster had directed Hereditary in 2018 and Midsommar in 2019.
Pascal commented about the movie [Aster’s] through IndieWire during Cannes, saying it evoked our deepest fears about the lockdown experience which had already fractured society. It moved towards a disconnected perception of reality with no return point. I was swept away by that fear and it’s amazing that Ari shared the same sentiment.
Eddington will be released in United States theaters on July 18, 2025, from A24.
