At Dragon Age and Mass Effect creator BioWare, there’s a significant shift taking place as Electronic Arts (EA) aims to streamline the team responsible for Mass Effect 5 development. The studio states that the upcoming Mass Effect game doesn’t necessitate the involvement of the entire studio, and they have been diligently working on assigning employees to other roles within EA.
In simpler terms, Gary McKay, who leads BioWare, published an update on their blog explaining changes in staffing at the studio. He clarified that their primary focus is now on creating Mass Effect 5, which means they don’t need all hands on deck right now. Instead, they have been carefully assigning many of their team members to other Electronic Arts teams that currently have open positions that suit their skills well.
McKay indicates that EA is considering reassigning BioWare team members who are no longer needed, yet he does not provide a clear answer regarding potential layoffs or the number of affected employees. In response to an IGN request for more information, the studio stated, “Although we’re not disclosing specific numbers, we have the appropriate staff in the right positions to work on Mass Effect at this stage of development.
It’s been revealed that the team in charge of creating the upcoming Mass Effect game, a project that was first unveiled more than four years back, includes industry veterans such as Mike Gamble, Preston Watamaniuk, Derek Watts, and Parrish Ley, among others.
Due to poor sales, the game director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard left BioWare after the game failed to meet Electronic Arts’ sales expectations.)
