Today brings another challenging day for the video game industry as it seems Electronic Arts has decided to scrap one of its highly anticipated and high-profile projects – the Black Panther game based on Marvel’s iconic African superhero. Regrettably, it looks like this project has been put on hold indefinitely, and the studio tasked with creating it is being closed down as well.
Information about the termination of Black Panther and Cliffhanger, provided by Rebekah Valentine at IGN, originated from an email sent out this week by Laura Miele, President of EA Entertainment. This announcement has resulted in additional layoffs by the publishing company, with Respawn Entertainment experiencing a round of layoffs and the cancellation of two unrevealed projects about a month ago.
Miele stated in the email that these decisions are challenging due to their impact on individuals we have collaborated with, mentored, and created meaningful moments with. We are making every effort to assist them, even exploring possibilities within EA, a place where we’ve had success helping people transition into new positions.
It’s worth mentioning that in the fourth quarter of 2025, Electronic Arts reported earnings amounting to $1.80 billion, surpassing the predictions made by analysts. Over the course of the previous fiscal year, they invested approximately $2.5 billion on repurchasing their own stocks.
Electronic Arts earned $1.80 billion in Q4 2025, more than what experts thought they would make. During the last financial year, they spent around $2.5 billion buying back their own shares.

EA is planning to concentrate more on a limited number of series moving forward, namely Battlefield, The Sims, Skate, and Apex Legends. Miele emphasizes that the Iron Man game and the third Star Wars Jedi project will be completed as planned, but past experiences show that plans can change. We’ll keep you updated on any new information regarding EA here at Shacknews.
