Dwayne Johnson has commented on his recent movie project with Martin Scorsese.

In February 2025, it became known that Johnson would be appearing in a fresh movie helmed by Scorsese. Additionally, Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt are slated to feature in this upcoming production as well.

As reported by Deadline, it was Johnson and Blunt who initially proposed the film concept to both Scorsese and DiCaprio. Subsequently, the quartet recruited Nick Bilton to draft the screenplay.

The film will focus on a “ruthless Hawaiian crime boss” who is based on a real-life figure.

What did Dwayne Johnson say about working with Martin Scorsese?

Johnson expressed on X, “I’m deeply appreciative for an incredibly creative and stimulating period in my career, which involved collaborating with my dear friends, not forgetting the legendary Marty Scorsese. In the 60s, 70s, and 80s, the mafia had a significant influence over New York, Miami, Chicago, Las Vegas, and importantly, the place where I grew up – Hawaii. There’s much more to come. A heartfelt, profound aloha.

The movie centers around a turbulent period on a tropical island paradise, during which an ambitious crime boss struggled against rival criminal groups to seize control of the underworld of the Hawaiian islands. Deadline’s summary describes it as a violent conflict reminiscent of the one portrayed in both Goodfellas and The Departed. In the 1960s and 70s, this powerful and charismatic mob boss rose to create the most formidable criminal empire on the islands, engaging in a brutal war against mainland corporations and other gangs while defending his ancestral land. The story is based on the untold true account of a man who fought fiercely to protect his homeland through an unyielding quest for complete power, sparking the last significant American mob tale. This conflict unfolds in an unexpected setting: paradise.
