As a devoted fan of Dune: Prophecy, I’ve been captivated by the intricate web of secrets and power struggles unfolding in this captivating series. The recent press conference with Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, and Alison Schapker offered a tantalizing glimpse into what lies ahead for Valya Harkonnen, Reverend Mother Tula Harkonnen, and the Sisterhood.
As a passionate gamer immersed in the world of “Dune: Prophecy”, I’ve been on the edge of my seat since witnessing the intense finale. Actress Emily Watson, who brings Mother Superior Valya Harkonnen to life, and Olivia Williams, our Reverend Mother Tula Harkonnen, have been sharing insights about this mind-blowing ending and its potential impact on the series ahead. Showrunner Alison Schapker has also contributed her thoughts to the mix.
On Thursday, December 19, 2024, Brandon Schreur, Senior Editor at ComingSoon, attended a celebration for the final episode of Dune: Prophecy. As the event concluded, it was disclosed that the series had been given the green light for another season.
As a devoted admirer, I plunged headfirst into juicy tidbits alongside Watson, Williams, and Schapker during their chat about the behind-the-scenes of season one of the captivating sci-fi series, unfolding before the tales depicted in Denis Villeneuve’s movies. They tantalizingly hinted at a sneak peek into what lies ahead in Dune: Prophecy Season 2, leaving us fans eagerly anticipating more!
All six episodes of Dune: Prophecy Season 1 are now streaming on Max.
Where does the Sisterhood stand following the events of Dune: Prophecy Season 1?
They inquired about Schapker’s current position regarding the Sisterhood, given that the breeding index has been destroyed and the royal family has collapsed.
Schapker replied, “Indeed, that’s an insightful query. It seems to me that this question is crucial, and its answer might still be unclear. In other words, things have shifted, and I wonder how permanent this change will be for Valya. Furthermore, the role Tula will play in the future, as well as how the Sisterhood will endure, are questions that we’ll need to explore more in season two.
As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “At first, things were perfect, tailored exactly to our gaming preferences. But ever since then, it’s been a gradual slide downhill.
What does Valya hope to accomplish on Arrakis?
Schapker likewise delved into Vayla’s aspirations for Arrakis and how her arrival on the planet will provide her with ample opportunities to uncover more information as the story progresses.
Following a spell where the mystique of Arrakis seemed to exert its influence from afar, whether it’s through economic spice trade, psychological aspects like visions and nightmares, or just the lingering imagery of Arrakis and Desmond’s past affecting everyone’s thoughts. In the next stage, we will physically enter this heavily symbolic and almost legendary Dune universe that we have been familiar with throughout the season, yet kept at a distance until now.
As a gamer, I can’t help but notice the intriguing presence of Valya behind the scenes, and it seems to me she might be in a location crucial to Desmond’s origin. Much like Desmond, who burst onto the scene with his captivating tale of survival from Arrakis, swallowed by a worm and outliving his entire regiment, I sense that Valya is there too. All I can say is, I have a feeling she’s about to uncover some fascinating secrets given her proximity to where Desmond first appeared as an adversary. It’ll be exciting to see what revelations await her in this intriguing location.
Will Mark Strong’s Javicco character be back for Dune: Prophecy Season 2?
In a confirmation, it was made clear that Mark Strong’s character, Javicco Corrino, has indeed met his end after the happenings in Dune: Prophecy Season 1.
We adore him deeply, and we’re incredibly saddened by this news. Mark Strong was an absolute delight to collaborate with – a truly exceptional actor and a remarkable individual. His portrayal of the emperor in our series was outstanding, and it was a genuine pleasure to witness his character evolution throughout the season. It’s appropriate to acknowledge that he has passed away, but his absence will be profoundly felt. His departure leaves a significant void in power.
Emily Watson and Olivia Williams on Jessica Barden and Emma Canning playing younger versions of their characters
In their conversation, ComingSoon wanted to know more about Watson and Williams’ collaborations with Jessica Barden and Emma Canning, since both actresses portray youthful versions of Valya and Tula that appear in various flashback sequences throughout the show.
Initially, aren’t we fortunate to have these two exceptional actresses working with us? We conversed extensively, but filming had already begun when they arrived. Thus, they had to adapt and mimic our performances, as I understand it. What I admire about their portrayal is that they created versions of our acts that were raw and unpolished, which I believe was a clever and endearing approach.
Williams commented, “Indeed, it seemed to be more about the way they carried themselves emotionally. It appeared to be a well-conducted study, or perhaps intuitive, I’m not sure, but both of them were incredibly impressive. I learned quite a bit about my own character by observing Emma’s actions.
Conflict is now brewing between Valya and Desmond
When questioned about Valya’s current feelings towards Desmond after discovering he’s her nephew, Watson expressed, “There seems to be a struggle because she recognizes him as Tula’s son, and the hurt from that betrayal is intense. However, there’s also a side of Valya that’s strong-willed and determined: ‘I witnessed his memory, and I sensed someone is exploiting him. I’m eager to uncover who that person is.’ That’s what intrigues me.
Schapker added some insight about Desmond’s background, stating, “You might not have noticed, but the fabric Desmond carries initially, when he first appears in Salusa and approaches the palace, is a black cloth. This cloth holds significance as it represents his mother. Throughout the series, he uses this fabric in private instances to maintain his determination and connection. Eventually, he encounters her and grasps her actual dress. It turns out that the piece of baby blanket she swaddled him in, which was made of sisterhood cloth, is what he’s been holding onto all along. Now, he’s reunited with his mother. We aimed to incorporate such details to hint at where the story was heading.
