Javier Bardem doesn’t know if Stilgar will return in Dune: Messiah

In the two Dune films, Javier Bardem’s performance as the Fremen leader Stilgar has earned widespread acclaim from viewers.

As production on Dune: Messiah gets underway, Variety sat down for a chat with Bardem. Although most of the discussion revolved around his recently premiered animated film, Spellbound, Bardem couldn’t help but express his opinions regarding Stilgar’s role in Dune: Messiah. Furthermore, he expressed some doubts about his involvement in the upcoming third part.

Javier Bardem expressed to the media, “Since I’m included in the book, I ought to be part of the script too. If I’m not, it will make me extremely upset and I’ll make sure Denis Villeneuve is aware. I might even travel to Canada.” He also commended Villeneuve, saying, “I have immense respect for him. I deeply admire him. Whatever he desires or decides, I’m completely on board with that. Definitely. He’s unique. He’s an exceptional individual. A truly loving man, full of humor, incredibly funny, and a true professional.

In addition to winning an Oscar, the actor shared that his son was thrilled to see him in “Dune: Part 2,” released in March. Yet, he expressed dissatisfaction as he didn’t participate in any sword-fighting scenes. Javier Bardem made a request of director Denis Villeneuve, saying, “I have another wish for Denis Villeneuve. If there ever is a ‘Dune: Messiah,’ please include a small amount of sword fighting so I can share it with my child.
