Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake will also come to Nintendo Switch 2

There’s a buzz in the atmosphere on Dragon Quest Day, as fans of the series eagerly await details about the upcoming remake of Dragon Quest 1 & 2, titled Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake. This exciting title is scheduled for release on PC and consoles later this year. Previews are now available, new footage can be found online, and Square Enix has announced the collection’s release date. Moreover, Square Enix confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will also receive this new game.

It’s no surprise that Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the original Nintendo Switch, given that these were the platforms for Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. However, a new version of the game for Nintendo Switch 2 was just announced, and Square Enix clarified that this isn’t just an upgraded port of the previous version. Instead, the Switch 2 edition will be tailored specifically for the newer Nintendo hardware, although details on any console-specific features were not disclosed.

The upcoming remake of Dragon Quest 1 & 2 in HD-2D format will conclude the tale initiated by the Dragon Quest 3 remake, which is collectively referred to as the Erdrick Trilogy. Similarly to the popular release in 2024, this compilation will include a modernized HD-2D appearance and numerous enhancements aimed at improving gameplay elements ranging from moving across the overworld to turn-based combat.
