In simple terms, the highly awaited Tamil movie titled “Dragon,” starring Pradeep Ranganathan as the main character, was released in cinemas on February 21st, a Friday, in 2025.
It’s now being said that just after its release, the movie was targeted by piracy. Specifically, OneIndia reports that the illegal leak came from Tamil Rockers, a well-known piracy platform. Furthermore, it appears that the high-definition version of the film has been illegally uploaded online.
In more recent periods, the film industries based in South India have been battling hard against movie piracy, with numerous prominent films like Vishwak Sen’s Laila, Thandel starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi, Game Changer, upcoming movies such as Pushpa 2, Ponman, Kalki 2898 AD, and many others having suffered the same fate of being pirated.
Indeed, various well-known personalities have publicly expressed their opposition to piracy too. For instance, not long ago, Bunny Vas, the producer of Thandel, publicly voiced his disapproval when Naga Chaitanya’s film was illegally played on an APSRTC bus.
Piracy poses a significant legal challenge to a movie’s success at the box office and impacts those who put effort into making it. Under Indian law, piracy is forbidden under the Cinematograph (Amendment) Act of 2023. Those involved in piracy could face imprisonment, fines amounting to five percent of the film’s production cost, or both as penalties.
In brief, Dragon is a comedy-drama that follows the journey of self-discovery, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu who previously worked on Oh My Kadavule. The main character is played by Pradeep Ranganathan, while notable actors such as Anupama Parameswaran, George Maryan, Kayadu Lohar, and Gautham Vasudev Menon are featured in significant roles.
The movie centers on the main character who turns rebellious after being turned down by his high school crush for not fitting the “bad boy” image. Yet, his college girlfriend ends their relationship because of his careless behavior, prompting him to make changes in his life. This transformation is the core theme of the story.
The movie was financially supported by Kalpathi S. Aghoram through AGS Entertainment, and Nikesh Bommireddy operated the camera for it. Pradeep E. Ragav handled the editing of the film, and Leon James created its music.
