Dracula’s Secret History Unveiled in Exclusive Book I—The Impaler Preview

As a lifelong fan of gothic horror and a connoisseur of vampire lore, I can’t help but be enthralled by the upcoming Dracula: Book II – The Brides. Matt Wagner and Simon Bisley have crafted a unique and captivating take on these iconic characters in the first volume, and I eagerly anticipate delving deeper into their chilling tale.

Looking forward, ComingSoon will unveil a detailed, 20-page sneak peek of Dracula: Book I—The Impaler, an upcoming series penned by Matt Wagner (Grendel, Mage) and illustrated by Kelley Jones (Batman: Red Rain, The Sandman). This first installment, which consists of 112 pages, is currently available in both bookstores and comic shops for a price of $29.99, courtesy of Dark Horse.

Veteran comic book creators Matt Wagner and Kelley Jones collaborate on a fresh interpretation of literature’s most iconic vampire. The initial installment of a four-part series, titled “The Impaler,” delves into Dracula’s mysterious past, shedding light on his journey from dabbling in the dark arts to becoming the ruler of the undead, long before he made his debut in the novel.

As mentioned, this is the first of four planned volumes, and the second book is already in the works. At the time of writing, the Dracula: Book II – The Brides Kickstarter has raised over $158,000. The sequel book is once again by Wagner and Jones, with José Villarrubia on colors and lettering by Rob Leigh.

As a gamer immersed in the world of Dracula, one thing that truly sends a chill down my spine is the enigmatic presence of his vampiric Brides. Whether it’s the original novel or any of the countless screen adaptations, these alluring and haunting figures are always a pivotal part of the story. They leave us with more questions than answers: Who were they before they joined Dracula’s chilling ensemble? What events led to their transformation into his undead companions? And what role do they play in the unfolding tale of this timeless vampire?

Currently, Jones is thrilled that the second volume is named “The Brides” and appreciates the “utterly chilling” narrative crafted within it. As he put it, “It’s a rich depiction of these three women who, up until now, have been stereotypically portrayed as merely gruesome caricatures. Let me clarify, this isn’t an attempt to impose contemporary values onto the story. One of the reasons I admire Matt’s scripts is their authenticity – each tale feels perfectly in tune with the era in which it unfolds.
