As a dedicated fan who’s been through more thrillers than I care to count, let me share my thoughts on the gripping Netflix film, Don’t Move. The tension throughout was palpable, and the ending left me hooked, much like Richard (played by Finn Witrock) seemed to be clinging to life in that chilling lake scene.
Here are the ending explanations and spoilers for Netflix’s Don’t Move, which answer the question of whether Finn Witrock’s Richard lives or dies by the end of the movie. Directed by Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, the story follows a woman who, while grieving a family tragedy, encounters a stranger who injects her with a paralytic agent, putting her in a race against time and for survival before her body’s nervous system shuts down.
What happens at the end of Netflix’s Don’t Move?
In the final scene of Netflix’s “Don’t Move,” Iris, whose senses had been largely inactive throughout most of the movie, regain their functionality. She eventually finds her voice and uses it to persuade Richard, who is transporting her to a nearby lake, not to take her life by reminding him of his daughter.
As Richard chauffeurs Iris to the local lake, his phone rings with a call from his daughter. She informs him that she and his spouse will be visiting him soon at the residence where he’s been dedicating ample time to personal development.
Later, Richard alters his initial idea of bringing Iris to his home. Instead, he guides her to a remote location with the intention of murdering her. However, Iris makes an effort to persuade him to leave her by the side of the road, but he refuses.
In the end, Iris manages to regain a considerable amount of physical control and, with a syringe, stabs Richard – unfortunately for her, this action has no effect on him. Richard then forcefully drags Iris towards a lake and pushes her into a boat. But Iris cleverly keeps Richard occupied by asking him for Mateo, her deceased son’s red toy boat, saying she wants to hold it as she passes away. While Richard is preoccupied with handing over the toy boat, Iris seizes the moment to stab him in the neck instead.
In a fit of anger, Richard hastily touches his throat injury and attempts to murder Iris, but she manages to shoot him instead. As luck would have it, the vessel they were aboard begins to sink, yet Iris miraculously makes it back to dry land as her faculties are restored.
Does Finn Witrock’s Richard live or die in Don’t Move?
In the Netflix film, Richard’s storyline doesn’t definitively reveal whether he lives or dies; instead, it portrays him as having made it through his encounter with Iris but severely wounded, struggling to breathe due to the deep neck wound she inflicted and losing a lot of blood. The creators of this movie may have intentionally left Richard’s survival open-ended in order to hint at a potential sequel.
