Donkey Kong Bananza Leak Destroys The Whole DK Timeline

One excitingly awaited game for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is “Donkey Kong Bananza”. Interestingly, a leaked Korean poster from Nintendo hints at an unexpected appearance – a recognizable character that wasn’t initially thought to make a comeback.

Who Are We Talking About?

The removed poster closely resembles the globally distributed image at the start of this article, but there’s a significant variation: DK is wearing a tie with a child dangling who looks like Pauline. This child accessory bears an uncanny resemblance to the peculiar rock that hovers over Donkey Kong in the official poster. Now, here’s the intriguing question: Does this alteration potentially affect the Donkey Kong chronology?

Who Is Pauline?

If you’ve been following the Super Mario series for some time now, chances are you’re familiar with Pauline from Super Mario Odyssey, who plays the role of the mayor of New Donk City as an adult woman. However, not everyone may know that Pauline has roots dating back before the Super Mario franchise really took off. Her debut was in the original Donkey Kong, where she was depicted as a damsel in distress that you, as Jumpman, had to save from the clutches of the pesky monkey, Donkey Kong. It’s intriguing to consider how she could have appeared as a child in the game Donkey Kong Bananza.

What Could This Imply?

Based on our knowledge of Donkey Kong Country by Rare, where we first meet Cranky Kong in the arcade version, one might assume that this new game, Bananza, happens before the original. Given this assumption, it seems logical that the DK on the poster would be Cranky Kong (CK). However, this idea is challenged when we see Cranky Kong in his old, bearded form in the Switch 2 game. Therefore, we can only guess whether the figure on the poster is actually Pauline or if the game will provide an explanation for this mystery.
