Donald Trump Unbanned On Twitch After 3 Years, Streaming Comeback Begins

As a long-time gamer and Twitch stream enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions about the recent news of Donald Trump‘s account being reinstated on the platform. Three years ago, the political climate was tense with protests at the Capitol resulting in tragic deaths and subsequent bans on various platforms, including Twitch, for then-President Trump.

On January 6, 2021, violent protests at the Capitol resulted in the unfortunate loss of five lives. Consequently, social media platforms such as Twitch and Twitter suspended Trump’s access.

After an absence of three years, five months, and four weeks, I’m thrilled to share that Twitch has reinstated Donald Trump’s account. According to their statement, it was due to his ongoing campaign for the 2024 presidential elections that led to this decision.

We reinstated former President Trump’s channel. We believe there is value in hearing from Presidential nominees directly, when possible. Trump is now the official Republican nominee for US president.

“Effective today, Twitch has restored Donald Trump’s account. We recognize the significance of enabling a platform for presidential candidates to communicate directly with their supporters when feasible. Trump being the official GOP nominee for the U.S. presidency now falls under this category.”

Streaming-Comeback Came Sooner Than We Thought

After being unbanned just a few days prior, Trump’s Twitch account, boasting nearly 150,000 followers, resumed operations. During an approximately two-hour live stream, viewers had the opportunity to tune in to several speeches given by Donald Trump and his vice-presidential nominee at a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Twitch Follows Twitter

In November 2022, just one month following Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter for $44 billion, he chose to reinstate the suspended account of former President Trump. This decision came after Musk conducted a poll on his own account, revealing that approximately 51.2% of respondents favored reactivating Trump’s Twitter presence.

After the ban was lifted, Trump made just one post: He shared a mugshot with a link to his website on Truth Social, which is now his go-to platform as the former president.
