For some time now, there’s been a widely held assumption that Milly Alcock was cast early as Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) to make her debut in this year’s Superman film. Furthermore, when James Gunn mentioned he had shown the Superman trailer to an actress in the movie who wept while watching it, many speculated he might have been referring to Alcock. Some even think they catch a glimpse of Alcock in the damaged robot scene in the trailer, if you zoom in very closely.
It’s possible that when The Hollywood Reporter announced David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham joining the production of “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” as Kara’s parents, their statement about Olivia Alcock being chosen as Supergirl nearly a year ago and her first appearance in Gunn’s “Superman” movie might have been taken for granted by readers. However, it could also imply that after more than four decades, Supergirl is making a comeback to the big screen with this new film.
It would explain why Alcock was cast in the role a year before production on the film began.
