Dodgers Freddie Freeman May Return for Angels Match Following Injury

The lingering rib injury that Freddie Freeman sustained during the 2024 MLB postseason remains a source of concern as the Los Angeles Dodgers kick off their season in Japan. Initially projected to play at his regular first base position, Freeman was substituted by Kike Hernandez, leaving fans curious about when he might reappear on the field.

Here are more details about Freddie Freeman’s injury and his expected return.

Freddie Freeman might return to play against Angels, claims report

In the Tokyo Series and their initial game against the Chicago Cubs, Freddie Freeman, first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers, was unable to play due to a nagging issue in his left rib area. The team decided to err on the side of precaution to avoid any additional problems for Freeman.

Manager Dave Roberts clarified that Freeman was enthusiastic about getting onto the field, yet he complied with the medical team’s advice to rest. Even so, Roberts remained hopeful that Freeman might be fit for the impending Freeway Series against the Los Angeles Angels. Roberts added, “He always fights to play as much as possible. He’s eager to play every day. Initially, he was ready to play, but in the end, he accepted our and the training staff’s decision. It’s still early in the season, so it wouldn’t be wise to put him at risk.” (Adapted from MLB)

On Tuesday, during batting practice, Freeman experienced discomfort in the same region where he had sustained a rib cartilage fracture during the 2023 postseason. However, he mentioned that the pain wasn’t as intense this time. The medical team speculates that this issue might be connected to scar tissue left over from the old injury rather than a fresh problem.

Despite being unable to join the Tokyo Series, Freeman took part in two friendly matches – one against the Yomiuri Giants and another against the Hanshin Tigers. At this point, his involvement in the Freeway Series is still unclear, but the Dodgers are optimistic that he will be back on the field soon.
