Doctor Who Season 2 Finale’s Big Twist Might Be Misunderstood

In the final episode of “Doctor Who,” titled “The Reality War,” many were left stunned for numerous causes. Yet, the most unexpected revelation came in the form of actress Billie Piper, known for her role as Rose Tyler, companion to both the Ninth and Tenth Doctor. This sparked speculation that she might become the next Doctor. However, there are several factors suggesting this may not be true.

In the grand finale of ‘The Reality War’, I (the Fifteenth Doctor) chose to give up my life energy to save a young girl who emerged from a mind-bending conundrum. Instead of dwelling on my impending demise, I reveled in the richness of my experiences. As my essence dissipated, I faced an old friend – a star – one last time. When the radiance subsided, there stood Billie Piper, ready to take my place as the Doctor. This seemingly hints at Billie Piper becoming the Last of the Time Lords.

In the end credits, Billie Piper was given the line “And Introducing Billie Piper.” Typically, when a new actor assumes the role of the Doctor, they are introduced with “And Introducing (Actor’s Name) as The Doctor,” such as in ‘The Giggle’ for Ncuti Gatwa as Fifteen. This begs the question: If not the latest manifestation of the Last of the Time Lords, who then is Billie Piper?

This isn’t Billie Piper’s first Doctor Who role

Apart from her well-known portrayal of Rose Tyler, Piper also made a significant mark in Doctor Who lore by playing another pivotal character: the Moment, a sentient doomsday weapon featured in the 50th Anniversary special ‘The Day of The Doctor.’ The Moment possessed the ability to reshape reality, but its employment came with an immense cost. Initially meant to end the Time War, The War Doctor planned to employ the Moment. However, it revealed his future selves instead, leading him to seek another solution. Despite finding one, he was left brooding over the belief that he had destroyed both the Time Lords and Daleks in the name of preserving reality.

The Moment informed the War Doctor that it had assumed a significant figure from their past. However, there was a possibility it had selected a form from their future instead, explaining, “I often confuse the two.” The Moment appeared to recall the face being that of Rose Tyler or the Bad Wolf, but seemed unsure about this detail too.

As a gamer, I’m buzzing with excitement about potential theories on Billie Piper’s upcoming role in Doctor Who! Could it be the Moment, stepping up to fix the ripple effects from the Fifteenth Doctor meddling with reality? Or perhaps Rose Tyler in her Bad Wolf form, given her powers were strikingly similar. Whichever way you look at it, Billie Piper not being explicitly introduced as the Sixteenth Doctor hints that something out of the ordinary is brewing!
