The Plot

DNA portrays the dramatic tale of two characters, Anand and Divya. Struggling with life following his girlfriend’s demise, Anand finds solace in alcohol. His life takes a downward spiral as he is perceived as reckless by his father, who further embarrasses him when Anand is humiliated in front of his brother’s potential in-laws.

Over time, Ananda ends up at a rehabilitation facility for addiction treatment. Following his release, his wedding takes place with Divya, a woman who has Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

In spite of knowing about her medical situation, Anand welcomes her into his life, and they live a contented married life together. But following the birth of their son, Divya becomes certain that the baby isn’t hers and that someone has swapped the newborn with another child.

Despite others, including medical professionals, doubting her, Anand stands by his wife. The journey of their search for the truth serves as the main plot in the film.

The Good

One key advantage of DNA is its ability to intricately intertwine its fundamental components. Unlike the flawless characters often portrayed in movies, both the male and female leads in this story possess their fair share of imperfections. It’s the skillful writing that brings these flaws to life, making them an engaging on-screen couple.

Kicking off like a heart-wrenching drama, the story then transitions into a gripping thriller with an intriguing premise. As the story unfolds, the characters become more complex, and Atharvaa and Nimisha’s performances are commendable for their well-timed subtlety and depth. These nuances are what resonated deeply with viewers.

Speaking about the technical elements, Parthiban’s cinematography deserves appreciation due to its stunning visuals. Additionally, the background music by Ghibran is nothing short of flawless given that several musicians worked on it for this emotionally charged story.

The Bad:

The downsides of this movie lie in its old-fashioned script and flawed production. Despite these shortcomings, the idea and plot are intriguing enough to keep you hooked, compelling you to watch it through from beginning to end.

Although it excels in many areas, its downfall lies in its inconsistency in narrative flow. A film so intricately woven loses its charm due to an overabundance of tired tropes. While a sprinkle of familiar elements could have been acceptable, the movie’s predictability becomes too much, making it less engaging for viewers.

The Performances:

Previously discussed, DNA takes center stage much like a captivating movie, thanks to its outstanding cast members. Athletically and Nimish shine brightly in portraying their intricate roles, creating memorable scenes.

It’s important not just to highlight Sathya and Rasool, but also to give credit to Balaji Sakthivel, Ramsh Thilak, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub for their exceptional moments in the piece. Each of them truly shines.
