The story seems to strike a chord with my own experiences of navigating personal struggles while trying to maintain connections with family and friends.
The official Disfluency trailer for the newest coming-of-age drama has been released, starring Sneaky Pete’s Libe Barer and Marvel’s Runaways vet Ariela Barer. The movie is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on January 10, 2025, followed by its VOD release on January 24.

What happens in the Disfluency trailer?
In this movie, we meet Lilia Barer’s character Jen, who returns to her childhood home following her last college class failure. Here, she rekindles relationships with relatives and former acquaintances while tackling a private issue. Alongside Lilia, Chelsea Alden, Dylan Arnold, Travis Tope, Kimiko Singer, Molly Hagan, Ricky Wayne, Diana DeLaCruz, and Wayne David Parker also appear in the film.
The movie “Disfluency” is helmed by director Anna Baumgarten. It’s supervised by Libe Barer, Benjamin Wiessner, Jim Cummings, Alex Rudolph, Ted Reilly, Kelly Waller, and Mark Glasgow in executive production roles. Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor, and Nikki Stier Justice are associated producers, while Danny Mooney, Anna Baumgarten, and Elaine Hastings Edell take on the producer roles.
Everyone is taken aback when ‘Jane the Brain,’ known for her academic prowess, fails her final college class and returns to her tranquil hometown by the Michigan lake. Her supportive parents, feisty older sister, familiar friends, and an old high school sweetheart ease the pain of failure as she ponders her next steps. Soon enough, this setback seems like a chance for one last, carefree summer getaway.
Jane renews an old bond with her neighbor Amber, a solitary mother to a challenging toddler. Leveraging her studies in linguistics, she shares her knowledge – particularly American Sign Language – to aid Amber in communicating with her son. However, despite her attempts, Jane finds it hard to conceal the root issue that disrupted her academics earlier. Struggling with feelings of inadequacy and battling the effects of PTSD, Jane’s inner turmoil eventually surfaces. With the help of those close to her, Jane embarks on a lifelong journey of healing following a sexual assault.
