Towards the closing stages of Chapters 2-4 in “Monster Hunter Wilds”, you’ll encounter “The Black Flame” for the first time. However, the fearsome monster has disappeared into the depths below the Everforge, located at the bottom of the Basin. To complete the “Long-Forgotten Flame” questline, your primary task is to locate and investigate “The Black Flame.

If you share my predicament, you might be having trouble finding ‘The Black Flame’ in Monster Hunter Wilds. Unfortunately, Alma doesn’t provide a clear map to the beast, but this guide aims to help you discover The Black Flame’s location. (Hint: Alma could use a compass!)

How to Search for the Black Flame: Monster Hunter Wilds

If you’ve arrived at the main location within the Basin (you should be there once this quest directive pops up), feel free to consult your map and navigate southwest to locate Area 7 in the Basin. This isn’t where The Black Flame is, but it serves as a starting point for finding it.

Feel free to press the right stick to mark a location for your Mount to auto-follow a path. You can select any spot on the map; it doesn’t have to be a specific item. In simpler terms, just move towards region 7.

Upon your arrival, you’ll begin noticing remnants left by The Black Flame that you can explore, including Half-Eaten Food, Slime-like Substance, and Tracks. Shortly after, Scoutflies will pick up the monster’s scent, causing it to appear on your map for easier tracking.

In Area 15, the Black Flame made an appearance for us. To locate and approach it, simply consult your map, identify the monster, and mark its position so that your mount can guide you directly there. If your character isn’t moving as desired, just press the ‘up’ button on the directional pad for automatic navigation assistance.

After successfully locating The Black Flame, it’s time to eliminate it permanently. Following its defeat, all players will receive three Assessment Items as a reward. These items are the same for everyone, but we distributed Decorations such as Blast, Defense Lock, and Survival Jewels. You can incorporate these into your gear to gain additional skills. Additionally, you’ll earn 9000z, provided you don’t lose consciousness during the battle.

Should you require guidance on caring for The Black Flame, more commonly known as Nu Udra, here’s some advice I can offer:

1. Maintain a consistent water temperature between 72-80°F (22-26°C) to ensure optimal health and growth.
2. Provide plenty of hiding spots to create a sense of security for your Nu Udra.
3. Feed a varied diet consisting of frozen, live, and freeze-dried foods, such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.
4. Regularly test the water quality using an aquarium test kit to monitor pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels.
5. Perform partial water changes weekly to maintain cleanliness in the tank.
6. Ensure proper filtration is in place to keep the water clean and well-oxygenated.
7. Use a gentle vacuum to remove excess debris from the substrate during water changes.
8. Provide adequate lighting for your Nu Udra, as it is a nocturnal species that requires a dark environment during the day.
9. Offer caves and driftwood structures for your Nu Udra to explore and interact with.
10. Monitor your Nu Udra’s behavior and appearance regularly to detect any signs of illness or stress, and take prompt action if necessary.
