Director Shankar REVIEWS Aadhi Pinishetty’s horror movie Sabdham; says ‘happy to see a new approach based on sound…’

On the 28th of February, Aadhi Pinishetty’s movie titled Sabdham made its theater debut. The reception from the audience was mixed upon its premiere. Three days later, esteemed filmmaker Shankar Shanmugham publicly shared his review on Sabdham.

On my recent visit to X (previously known as Twitter), I jotted down my reflections following the movie I watched: “Thrilled to witness an innovative, auditory-focused approach in a horror flick. The director’s impressive technical prowess and gripping narrative storytelling deserve recognition.

Discussing more about the film’s strengths, Shankar expressed that the pre-interval segment was an unanticipated “sonic” performance! Later, he appreciated Aadhi Pinishetty’s on-screen charisma and commended S. S. Thaman’s music composition.

The movie titled “Sabdham” features Aadhi Pinishetty, Lakshmi Menon, Redin Kingsley, Laila, among others in significant roles. This Tamil-language film is the brainchild of director Arivazhagan Venkatachalam. Notably, 7G Films and Alpha Frames have collaborated to produce this film, with Siva and S. Banupriya Siva overseeing the production process.

In this production, S. S. Thaman is responsible for creating both the movie’s main melodies and the accompanying background music. Meanwhile, Arun Bathmanaban takes charge of the film’s cinematography, while V. J. Sabu Joseph focuses on its editing.

In a different phrasing, the narrative revolves around Rooban, an individual specialized in ghost investigations who serves as a conduit for deceased souls to carry out their desires. A sequence of mysterious deaths occurs near a medical institution situated in Munnar, which causes him to doubt his fundamental convictions.

In their second joint venture, Aadhi teams up with director Arivazhagan Venkatachalam once more. They had earlier collaborated on the chilling mystery film “Eeram,” which garnered wide recognition after its debut in 2009.

It’s not unexpected that Shankar shared his thoughts on the movie, given his consistent role as a pioneer and motivator for innovative endeavors within the Tamil cinema sector.

Shankar, widely recognized as one of the most impactful directors in India’s film industry, is facing a challenging period right now. His recent releases, Indian 2 and Game Changer, have failed to make a significant impact at the box office and have received unfavorable reviews from critics.

Should there be any individual capable of making a resurgence, it’s undoubtedly Shankar S. This skilled director is immersed in crafting the screenplay for his imminent production, a film based on the esteemed Tamil novel Velpari.
