Director S Shankar calls out filmmakers for unauthorized use of Nava Yuga Nayagan Vel Paari novel scenes, vows legal action

As a lifelong admirer of S Shankar’s work, I wholeheartedly support his stance against the unauthorized use of scenes from the novel Nava Yuga Nayagan Vel Paari. Having closely followed his career and seeing the passion he brings to every project, it’s clear that he values the intellectual property rights of others as much as he does his own creativity.

Director S Shankar has shared previously that he intends to create a movie based on the renowned Tamil novel Nava Yuga Nayagan Vel Paari, penned by S Venkatesan. During the promotions of Indian 2 featuring Kamal Haasan, the filmmaker confessed to having read and enjoyed the highly acclaimed novel during lockdown. However, more recently, S Shankar has shown dissatisfaction towards certain filmmakers for using scenes from the novel without authorization.

Shankar expressed his intention to take legal steps against individuals who unlawfully used scenes from his novel, Nava Yuga Nayagan Vel Paari, without proper acknowledgement. He made this announcement via his social media account.

Hi everyone, I, S Shankar, hold the copyright for Su. Venkatesan’s acclaimed Tamil novel “Nava Yuga Nayagan Vel Paari.” I find it disheartening to observe crucial scenes being copied and utilized without authorization in numerous films. It’s particularly disappointing to notice a significant key scene from the novel appearing in a recent movie trailer. Please avoid incorporating scenes from the novel into movies, web series, or any other medium. Respect creators’ rights! Steer clear of unauthorized adaptations of scenes, and steer clear of infringement – legal action may be taken if necessary.

Take a look at his post below:

Regarding Venkatesan’s novel Nava Yuga Nayagan Vel Paari, S Shankar expressed at the Indian 2 event, “I thoroughly enjoyed reading the critically acclaimed Velpari novel during the COVID lockdown and can’t get enough of it. Straightaway, I began adapting it into a screenplay and have already finished the work. My intention is to develop it as a three-part film series.

The director mentioned that the process of selecting actors for the movie is currently in progress, as he aims for a flawless ensemble. He emphasized his desire for an accurate portrayal of the novel’s essence in the film adaptation.

Right now, S Shankar is busy preparing for the launch of the movie titled “Game Changer,” which features Ram Charan and Kiara Advani as the main characters.
