As a longtime fan of Supermassive Games and their gripping anthology series, Dark Pictures, I am beyond thrilled to see Lashana Lynch take the helm in Directive 8020! With her captivating performances in films like No Time to Die, The Woman King, and Marvel’s Captain Marvel, it’s clear that she can carry the weight of a story as complex and suspenseful as this one.
At the start of the Gamescom opening event, a fresh trailer for Directive 8020 was unveiled, featuring actress Lashana Lynch as the leading role in the upcoming Dark Pictures installment.
What is the Directive 8020?
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the latest addition to the Dark Pictures series, Directive 8020, is being crafted by the talented minds at Supermassive Games. In this upcoming installment, Lashana Lynch brings her stellar acting skills to life as the astronaut character Young. The game promises its signature branching narrative structure, along with innovative stealth mechanics and real-time perils, all powered by the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5.
According to Directive 8020, Earth is perishing and humanity is in search of a new abode. A distant planet, twelve light years away, appears ideal for colonization. Yet, upon crash-landing on this planet with the colony ship Cassiopeia, the crew discovers that it was too perfect to be real. Here are further details about the game’s narrative as provided by Supermassive Games.
The crew aboard the Cassiopeia is chased by an extraterrestrial being that imitates its targets, and they need to outsmart this foe to return home safely. In their struggle for survival, they face the most difficult decision: to ensure their own safety, they must jeopardize the lives of every person on Earth.
Lashana Lynch has appeared in several well-known movies such as Bob Marley: One Love, No Time to Die, The Woman King, and for Marvel enthusiasts, she’s recognized as Maria Rambeau from various MCU films like The Marvels, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Captain Marvel. In the upcoming Peacock series titled Day of the Jackal, Lynch will be acting alongside Eddie Redmayne.
Directive 8020 was hinted at towards the end of the 2022 game “The Devil in Me,” which is part of the Dark Pictures anthology. This game stars Jessie Buckley and is said to be the last installment of the first season. Previous games in this series include “Man of Medan,” “Little Hope,” and “House of Ashes.”
Directive 8020 is slated to launch in 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
