As someone who has been following the glamorous world of Telugu cinema for quite some time now, I must say that Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala’s wedding at Annapurna Studios is an event that stirs a mix of emotions within me. On one hand, it’s a heartwarming moment to witness the union of two promising stars, and on the other, it brings back memories of the controversies surrounding this iconic venue.
On December 4, 2024, it’s been announced that Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala will be getting married. This joyous event marks their union. The wedding will take place at Annapurna Studios, a property owned by the Akkineni family. Are you familiar with the past controversies associated with this venue?
Annapurna Studios was established by the late film icon Akkineni Nageswara Rao in 1976. It is situated on a 22-acre plot of land that he acquired for around $7500 to $8500 per acre, according to Deccan Herald reports.
According to the report, it’s stated that the celebrity purchased the location at a cost between 1.5 and 1.8 million rupees, turning it into a studio. Nowadays, this venue stands out as one of the notable spots in the state, having integrated itself into an upscale neighborhood. As per current reports, an acre in that area is valued at approximately Rs 30 crores, which implies that the studio’s worth is around Rs 650 crores.
In 2015, there was a dispute involving a major film studio when the local government attempted to seize land from the Akkineni family for infrastructure projects, following the division of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Initially, the studio’s leaders turned down the request and asked for payment instead. This sparked controversy because the government argued that the low price at which the property was sold in 1976 was meant to foster art and cinema in the state. However, after some disagreement, the management agreed, and the government acquired the land from the studio site, clearing the path for road construction.
Now, with the Akkineni family eagerly anticipating the union of Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala, the joyous couple will tie the knot at a studio venue instead of a rumored destination wedding in Rajasthan. Earlier, there were whispers about their choice of location, but it seems that plans have now been finalized for the wedding to take place somewhere that carries spiritual significance for Akkineni Nageswara Rao.
