Today, Thani Oruvan continues to be a timeless action movie favorite. Directed by Mohan Raja, this film boasted a talented cast ensemble, with Ravi Mohan in the main role, alongside Nayanthara and Arvind Swamy. Interestingly, you might not know that Ravi Mohan wasn’t initially the chosen actor for the lead part! That’s correct!
The director Mohan Raja revealed during an interview with SS Music in 2023 that he specifically crafted the whole idea for the movie, which is a distinctive cop story, around the main character played by Prabhas.
Mohan Raja stated that he did share the plot of Thani Oruvan with the “Rebel Star,” but instead of action-thrillers, the star expressed a preference for romantic tales and inquired whether Mohan Raja had any such stories to offer.
Reflecting on the past, Mohan Raja shared, “The film ‘Thani Oruvan’ originally began as a project for Prabhas. The concept of leaping from a police academy – it all started with Prabhas. I told him the story. At that time, he had his own career path set out. He expressed interest in love stories and asked if I had any similar projects.
In the course of further discussion, the director admitted that if he’d begun his career by making a romantic film featuring Prabhas, the entire trajectory of his career could have been vastly altered.
In the end, it turned out that he starred in a romantic movie alongside Thalapathy Vijay, called Velayudham, but unfortunately, once again their collaboration did not come to fruition for Prabhas.
Speaking of Thani Oruvan, it’s been revealed that a sequel is in the works, with the announcement made on August 28, 2024 – marking eight years since the original film hit screens. It looks like Ravi Mohan and Nayanthara will be returning to their characters again.
