Did you know Nagarjuna, Sridevi and Rajinikanth were first choices for Ram Gopal Varma's THIS Bollywood film?

As a die-hard fan of Ram Gopal Varma’s cinematic journey, I find it fascinating to delve into the untold stories behind his masterpieces. The revelation that Rajinikanth, Sridevi, and Nagarjuna were initially considered for Rangeela is nothing short of intriguing. It’s a reminder that even the most iconic films could have had an entirely different cast.

In a surprising revelation, Ram Gopal Varma disclosed that his original plan for the 1995 movie “Rangeela” was to cast Rajinikanth, Sridevi, and Nagarjuna instead of Aamir Khan, Urmila Matondkar, and Jackie Shroff. According to a post on Times Now News, Varma expressed this in a blog post, stating that his initial choices for the film were not the actors who eventually starred in it.

Instead of the original, “He mentioned that after completing the story, he intended to produce a Telugu adaptation featuring Sridevi and Nagarjuna. Additionally, he was considering inviting Rajnikanth for a guest role. However, neither Sridevi nor Nagarjuna were fond of the original story; instead, they opted for another tale he had written, which was later made into the film ‘Govinda Govinda’.”

Additionally, the filmmaker stated that Nagarjuna and Sridevi believed Ram Gopal Varma excelled in action movies. Furthermore, he mentioned that the concept for Rangeela originated from real-life incidents, which were first discussed over coffee at an Irani café.

For those unfamiliar, “Rangeela” was a popular Bollywood film back in 1995. This movie was not only acted in but also written, directed, and produced by Ram Gopal Varma. The leading roles were played by Aamir Khan, Urmila Matondkar, and Jackie Shroff within this romantic comedy.

In the heart-pounding narrative I found myself utterly captivated by, my obsession centers around Mili’s relentless pursuit of stardom as an actress. As the story unfolds, it takes a tantalizing turn when not one, but two men – the renowned Raj Kamal and my childhood confidant Munna – find themselves ensnared in the web of their feelings for Mili, leading to a love triangle that leaves me on the edge of my seat!

Noteworthy is that Rangeela signified A R Rahman’s debut in composing original music and creating soundtracks for a Hindi film, as his previous Hindi releases were simply dubbed versions of his Tamil, Malayalam, or Telugu films. This movie was a box office success and served as a significant career milestone for Urmila Matondkar.

Recently, Ram Gopal Varma directed a film titled Vyuham. This Telugu production is a political thriller based on the life of Y.S., the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The plot centers around the unforeseen incidents that ultimately led to his untimely demise.

Furthermore, he made a guest appearance in the movie Kalki 2898 AD, which was directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies. This film featured Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani as its main cast members.
